Sad situation. You have my sympathies. But I can see what is really happening—Marathi chauvinism has made common cause with Hindu nationalism. And that isn't surprising. Your problem isn't with the 'Aap' vs 'Tu' part; you are offended because I said I don't like Bombay.

Confession. I had initially found the language in Mumbai kind of impolite as well. But it doesn't take much to realize that the impoliteness is not intended. The honesty, hard work and the community rhythm of the city override these quibbles any time.
