Why I am voting no to the culture war

A little piece I wrote for Premier Christianity re: the election.
"As a Christian, your primary political commitment should not be to victory over them (however defined) but communion with them."

Many proverbs mention the importance of knowing when & how to "overlook" & "conceal" another's transgressions (17:9, 19:11, etc). Good reminder that some transgressions need to be exposed while others do not, & only wisdom knows the difference.
“The tongue of the wise makes knowledge acceptable…” (Prov 15:2)
I love this: wisdom makes knowledge acceptable. Knowledge is often difficult to accept, esp when weaponized by the "teller."
So next time you have knowledge to deliver, be wise & deliver it acceptably.
"Resentment used to be something that folks wanted to get rid of, now they water it and put it on a windowsill, like a favorite pot plant."
-Edward St. Aubyn
This is the sort of reporting one subscribes to the @nytimes for!
Churches should not aspire to be apolitical, as if indifference to social issues is a Christian virtue.
Churches should aspire to create ppl who care deeply about social issues, but know how to hold even firm convictions w/humility, & know they're required to love their enemies.
"On the basis of the eternal will of God we have to think of every human being, even the oddest, most villainous or miserable, as one to whom Jesus Christ is brother and God is father; and we have to deal with him on this assumption." -Barth summarizing my book in a sentence
Still shook from the debate.
How in the world will I decide who to vote for???
I like them both so much!!!
Kyrie is a better fit with Luka than Brunson.
Tanking to save 2023 lotto pick landed Lively.
Gafford and Washington trades were awesome.
Turns out the Mavs played their cards really well.
Got to share the new book with my church this past Sunday.
The thesis of the book & sermon in a nutshell: aufhenbung > schadenfreude.

Making the rounds, for good reason. An economist named Larry Iannaccone wrote an article 30 years ago called "Why Strict Churches Are Stronger." It's true for a number of reasons.
Had a fun time talking about the new book and how to transcend our current cultural holy wars w/@PrestonSprinkle on one of my favorite pods!

This is how idolatry / addiction work. The initial perceived benefit each time is positive (though declining). But eventually every additional use is negative. At that point, however, you're so stuck you keep using.
This is where we are with the idolatry of the virtual world.
