With free agency and the trade period now officially finished, here is a review of the off season moves.
Review:
An off season of change at the Lions, but one thing that has changed is they’ve kept all their stars and go into 2027 in once again amazing shape and will contend again.
People would think that Brisbane have lost 4 players and Chris Fagan has walked away from coaching. But it looks worse than it is 3 of the 4 players that left were in the VFL 90% of this year and would not be guaranteed spots next year but not without a chance. Sadly when you have been so elite for 4-5 years at the top the depth players that can’t get regular games get targeted. It’s a case of take the good, with the bad.
The good news for Brisbane is they got picks in and will now bring in Caylen Murray who is a top 10-15 draft pick and that is a great result to continue to bring in top tier talent after wining another season premiership.
As for the coaching ranks, it doesn’t need to be stated how Chris Fagan leaving will be challenging at times, but the list is left in amazing shape. Brisbane are doing a full process, although a coach within makes sense some great coaches are a chance. Cam Bruce is the front runner along with Nathan Buckley and Adam Simpson having their names thrown up.
Changes:
Kiddy Coleman ➡️ Essendon
Lachie Neale ➡️ Collingwood
Sam Marshall ➡️ St. kilda
Will McLachlan ➡️ Melbourne
Chris Fagan ➡️ Coaching retirement
Key Contract singings:
Zac Bailey - 8 year deal
Logan Morris - 2 year deal (3 years to go)
Dayne Zorko - 1 year deal
Ryan Lester - 1 year deal
Draft picks: 21,27,28,45,79,97,115.
The next news will be a senior coach and the draft which will be exciting. I’ve done my best bringing it all to you!

40 years ago today saw our biggest ever victory over The Bluebirds.
The win was the first game of a 10-match unbeaten run in the league for the Reds - in which we scored 27 goals.
Barry Horne scored twice, with Jim Steel, a penalty from Steve Charles and Steve Massey rounding things off at the Kop end.
Nigel Vaughan grabbed a late consolation for Cardiff, who also had Chris Marustik sent off midway through the second half.
