First guest to get absolutely hammered, start a fight with the barman and get kicked out of the bar? Tune in tomorrow to find out
Tomorrow on Cheeky Pint: @willob of Ulysses joins @sacca and me to discuss why seagrass is the ultimate carbon sink, scaling underwater hard tech (deep tech?), and selling sea drones to the US Navy.

Even a year ago I don't think I would have believed that PI models can run on such a huge range of different robots.

might as well work from the beach until we all get killed by AI
I resigned from Anthropic today. I spent the last three years doing pretraining research at both OpenAI and Anthropic. Neither company is acting responsibly. They are racing straight to self-improving superintelligence and gambling with our lives. More thoughts below.

Robotics control might just be solved as a side quest of improving LLMs - pretty exciting! And it’ll be a lot more general
GPT-6 Astra scored 95% on a robot control task, up from Fable 5.1's 40%, with 6.2x fewer output tokens at 2.3x lower cost. 🧵

Get around this
We're hosting a research day in SF. You should come if you're building a data factory of some kind.

Loving this idea of “perspicacity”. I’ve never encountered it before. Feels like a trait of those who are completely alive to the wonders around them.

Amazing!
This week, @ActinideInc became the first startup in history to enrich uranium, producing HALEU, the fuel for next-gen and small modular reactors. We did it using Endurance, a particle accelerator that we designed and built in Texas. Endurance usually produces enriched Yb-176, a precursor for cancer therapies worth roughly $30,000 per gram. After a bulk Yb-176 delivery on July 30, we reconfigured Endurance for uranium.

This episode sparked a weird line of thinking about founders personified as musicians/bands. Off the cuff list here 1. Travis = AC/DC (TNT) - this song came on immediately after I listened to TK, felt perfect, and sparked this thing. (also, Rage Against the Machine?) 2. Jobs = Lennon (or Dylan?) 3. Elon = Nine Inch Nails (or Kanye?) 4. Jensen = Metallica 5. Bezos = Jay-Z (or Pink Floyd?) 6. Sam = Prince (or Radiohead/Thom Yorke) 7. Chesky = Springsteen (Pharrell?) 8. Jony Ive = Daft Punk 9. Zuck = Eminem 10. Dario = Nick Cave Senra has to be Dr Dre @davidsenra @travisk
“The lifestyle of  an entrepreneur  at its core is:  I can take more pain than the other guy, and I'll prove it.” “ There's a zen that can happen when a warrior has fought for a long time. You can get used to it.” “ You almost start accepting it. Like, something bad happens and you don't even get mad.” “ There are benefits.  But you need to make sure you don't get so used to it that it doesn't even bother you. You can get so zen, you're unbothered.” “ There's something special about the extra fierceness of being bothered, being upset about something that is wrong.” — @travisk

if you’re in san francisco and love music, i highly recommend checking out Envelop. they’re an immersive-sound nonprofit with a beautiful listening room where 32 speakers surround you for full-album, end-to-end listens i just heard Currents by Tame Impala there, an album that means a lot to me, and it was such a special way to encounter it again. you can feel how carefully every sonic choice has been matched to the emotional charge of each song. also still insane to remember Kevin Parker arranged and recorded the whole thing himself their calendar is stacked too, with Daft Punk, Frank Ocean, Radiohead, Pink Floyd, Miles Davis and many more. such a wonderful institution for a city to have, and a reminder of how different music feels when you give it your full attention

Pure wonder
i love nature docs & i recently came across one that hit me super hard. turns out the labords chameleon’s life cycle is extremely short. they live only 4-5 months & immediately die after laying & burying their eggs (which is their only purpose)z in the final moments their nervous system begins to fail as their brain loses control of skin cells, so random nerve firings cause the skin to randomly change colors which causes a ridiculous art as they slowly die. it’s like sort of a visualization of the brain’s final flickerings. pristine example of nature’s beauty, tragedy, & brutality at the same time.
