#EpigraphyTuesday WHAT is going on here? The inscription is tilting. Maybe the sculptor needed glasses, because this funerary altar is dedicated to the 'oculist doctor' ('MEDICO OCULARIO'), C. Terentius Pisto, who lived ... 87 years, 5 months, 24 days and 10 hours. đł 1/
ALT The fairly plain funerary altar of C. Terentius Pisto and his wife Iulia Secunda, Secunda, placed by his freedmen Helius and lanuaria, who prepared the tomb also for themselves and posterity. MEDICO OCULARIO, an 'oculist doctor', who would treat diseases of the eyes, and perhaps prescribe lenses, et al. The inscription is badly tilted upwards to the right, as is the top of the altar.
