No matter how screwy this app gets, I fully intend to stick around for the long haul.
That’s what we do.
My pet theory is Boomers wound up the the way they did bc their dads all had PTSD managed with heavy alcoholism

The church needs to be in a place where it is (as a senior courtier advised me on a past *big* event) “set to print”.
In the light of new guidance from the UK government urging people to be ready for up to three days without power or water, Rev Jules Middleton says churches can learn the lessons of the pandemic and be better prepared to serve well

this might genuinely be the greatest photograph in human history. the delicate balance between light and darkness, the peaceful beauty of the natural world, and the unsettling realisation that something ancient and deeply unnatural is always watching through the trees
By making an Act of Reparation, as the Faith teaches.
Not by whacking people’s heads off.
This is correct, and I’m tired of pretending otherwise. VoIPslop is a SCOURGE.

Build as if you’re building for the ages, not just the eight years you may be planning to inhabit this place. Leave good traces of who you are and what you stand for in the places you build, and see to it that they lift both your spirits and the spirits of those who come after.

Build as if daylight were your first light, and artificial light was reserved for the night. The windows you’ll add will also be great for cross-ventilation in warmer months, and everything in rooms with light on two sides (including the people) will be more beautiful.
If you thought the UK bathroom outlet discourse was tiresome, wait until you see how their plumbing supplies are run!
At some point, I think probably around 1930, the UK just seems to have given up on innovating.

This is one of the most cowardly, shameful acts in modern American history.
But it's only possible because Congress, for decades, has been giving up their constitutional authority to let the President do whatever he wants.

A handsome enough building, I suppose, but probably woefully unfit for purpose half a century prior.

Boomers have seen their net worth significantly increase by 37% in the last few years, while millennials and zoomers net worth has gone down by -23%.
Politicians will look at this and say we need to raise taxes on young people to pay for more government benefits to boomers.

Here's the special occasion!
After a year and a half of renovating the clergy house of St. Clement's, our parish's reading room/library had its grand opening! Even includes a proper library circulation system 💙💙
Survived another Diocesan Convention! My resolution condemning the proliferation of novel gambling media passed by a wide margin, and a resolution condemning the telecasting of executions passed with near unanimity.

Having a pattern book for homes and commercial buildings is the sword to the Gordian Knot of planning expenses. But make sure your town gets something historically, culturally and climatically, fitting.

You do not have to pay a review fee.
You only have to pay a permit fee.

Co-sign. It is a disgrace.
My 7-year-old son can’t watch sports with me anymore. Not because of the games, but because of the commercials.
The horror movie trailers are the worst. The terrifying imagery can send him into a spiral of anxiety that lasts well beyond the 30-second ad. These are images his young mind simply isn’t ready to process.
We talk a lot about mental health in this country, especially in sports. Yet between the relentless gambling ads, alcohol promotions and genuinely disturbing horror trailers, I’ve reached a point where watching an MLB or NFL game with my kids requires me to monitor every commercial break.
I love sports. I work in sports. Some of my favorite childhood memories were made watching games with my family. I want that for my sons.
I wish we could exercise better judgment about what we’re putting in front of families during sporting events.
Sports should bring generations together. Instead, I’m increasingly forced to treat game day like an adults-only event.
Something feels very wrong about that.

The notion that tolerating filth, disorder and lawlessness in public spaces is some sort of charity for the poor is deeply corrosive. The people most dependent on public spaces—and most harmed when they are degraded—are the hardworking, responsible, law-abiding working poor,

There’s way more to be demoralized about than someone jumping the gate. You doing the right thing shouldn’t depend on other people being held accountable. Poor people are often faced with less than optimal choices, so be careful before you judge.
