Excited to be starting as editorial director at @city_bureau this week. I am so grateful for my time at @chicagotribune and @chitribfood, and the folks there are still doing great work. It was simply time for a change and a new challenge.
I am so, so, so excited to be debuting PERFECT STORM, a @city_bureau series in partnership with local organizations across the Documenters Network examining how federal cuts are eroding community safety nets across the country.

Honestly it is an early positive sign that the significant infusion of funds into Chicago area transit has not led to a bunch of talk about new lines and capital expenditures, and instead is immediately being plowed into service improvements

This is also a moment to update your mental economic map of the city: Logan Square has basically an identical median household income now as Lakeview
I know this is totally anecdotal, but has anyone else in Chicago noticed a huge uptick in parking enforcement since roughly December? I swear I see ticketers on my Bridgeport block weekly now after almost never seeing them for seven years prior.
REALLY excited about this project. We're teaming up with Documenters sites across the country — Detroit! Newark! Seattle and Washington! — to illustrate how federal cuts are affecting your local communities.

AOC when asked on CNN about Schumer not endorsing Mamdani:
"The Democratic Party cannot last much longer by denying the future, by trying to undercut our young, by trying to undercut a next generation of diverse and upcoming Democrats that the actual electorate and voters support."

What happened to Charlie Kirk is unconscionable, but it was literally a few months ago that two Democratic state legislators were gunned down by a right wing activist. Let’s not pretend this is one-sided

WE JUST CUT OUR HOUSING REPORTER BECAUSE HOUSING IS NOT AN ISSUE ANYONE CARES ABOUT IN CHICAGO WE ARE VERY SMART AND GOOD AT BUSINESS
I don’t post on this platform anymore, but today is an exception. I’ve been laid off by the @chicagotribune. It was a joy working with so many amazing people in this newsroom.

The Tribune laid Sean off before he even covered a season. Employed him as a Bears reporter from March to July. This business is just brutal. Wishing him and the rest of the laid off Trib staff a new job, and soon!
I'm so unbelievably excited to announce that today is my first day at the @chicagotribune!
I will continue to cover the Chicago Bears (and occasionally other things) and I'm thrilled to be joining the team over at the Tribune. chicagotribune.com/2025/03/1…
An absolutely phenomenal journalist.

Today, @chicagotribune laid off five guild staff members in a roughly 10% cut to our newsroom. These layoffs underscore a sad but unsurprising failure of leadership by Alden Global Capital, our hedge fund owner, and local management.

I was laid off today by the Chicago Tribune as were several talented colleagues. I was able to report several dream stories during my year or so there, but partially, I had that freedom because “leadership” is completely absentee unless it affects their bottom line.
.@radbrowndads went deep on all angles of Chicago’s vibrant food scene way beyond the plate — the economic, cultural and political winds that power it, but also the fun and community that springs up around it.
