Indian protests are many magnitudes more violent than the French ones. But the reason why liberals like Bedi can't see that is because they are fundamentally incapable of seeing state violence as violence. For them, all violence by the state is legitimate, by citizens is a crime.
French “student” protests are even more DUMBER than Indian protests. Not to mention they are much more violent and obscene.
And yet, instead of instilling sense among the aggrieved, we find people like Greta Thunberg joining them.
I guess it’s really about who cashes in on a dumb ignorant herd. There really is a great market in fuelling populism and delusions of a crowd.
so diaspora remembers their Indian roots when they need to talk about margot robbie wearing noor jehan's necklace or scandanavian scarf or western celebrities wearing lehenga chili as couture but when there's talk about amplifying protests in India then it's all strange ok
i mean this with full respect, because i do respect what you’re trying to say here, but i think there are some very strange expectations that are somewhat randomly placed on second gen immigrants at times.
i personally struggle to understand why second gen-ers are specifically required to opine on current political/social movements in a country they have never lived in as a pre-requisite to being able to celebrate the culture in which they were raised. i say this because i can almost GUARANTEE that these people’s parents, who were (most likely) born AND raised in india for most of their lives, are also not making any [public] commentary on the protests, yet i highly doubt anyone would tell them they are not allowed to celebrate holidays or customs from their culture unless they speak out about current events first. on top of that, i think it takes on a bit of a “white man’s burden” effect to have indian-americans who have never lived in india be the spokespeople for what is happening in india.
idk i’m not saying second gen-ers shouldn’t open their mouths at all but i do think it’s a bit of a misplaced responsibility to suggest that they *must* speak out about current political affairs, and if they don’t, then they are being exploitative of india by celebrating diwali or holi or whatever. my opinion is that it feels a bit self-serving

Fun-facts for people speculating about a "foreign hand" and "foreign funding" for the cockroach protests: in 2016, BJP govt amended Foreign Contribution Regulation Act to explicitly allow foreign donations to political parties. BJP is the largest recipient of political donations

The 13 crore disenfranchised people -- especially over 3 lakh in Assam (1997 SIR) & over 20 lakh in Bengal--should be at the heart and core of this anti-CEC movement.

This is the most horrific detention story you will hear today.
At 8 PM, this bus stopped at a community centre in Pandwalan Khurd (see photo).
Detainees fractured. Four minors present. Everyone barbarically beaten up. No lawyers allowed to enter.
This is how we got here. ⬇️

I've always maintained that whatever works in this country works despite of it, not because of it.
Yesterday at CP, there were jammers because of a protest, so an Argentine woman at Saravana Bhavan couldn’t pay her approx ₹500 bill. Her card, UPI basically nothing worked. I ended up paying for her.
She said, “India is such an interesting country. The system is so hostile, but the people are equally kind.”
And honestly, it made me think: it’s rightly said, India disappoints both the optimist and the pessimist; often in the same afternoon. 😭
If you can, pls donate to the @sameerproject they're doing really important work on the ground to support Palestinians in gaza!
Back-to-school means something different this year in Gaza. After years of disruption, displacement, fear, and destroyed classrooms, we are so proud to support children in their efforts to focus, learn, and be given the opportunity to be students again. Donate now: chuffed.org/project/113222-t…
On September 21, The Sameer Project supported the opening of Al-Majd Educational School in Deir Al-Balah by providing stationery sets for 100 students.
Each child received notebooks, pencils, erasers, sharpeners, drawing supplies, felt-tip pens, colored pencils, and other essentials needed to begin the school year. It was 100 stationery sets, 100 excited students, and totaled $626 after 11% commission fees to get money into Gaza.
For a child in Gaza, having a notebook to write in, pencils to learn with, and a classroom to return to can represent routine, purpose, dignity, and hope - the genocide is ongoing but life tries to continue on, in simple ways like the opportunity to learn.
We are proud of every child who continues to show up, learn, dream, and work toward their future. And we are grateful that your support gives us the opportunity to stand beside them. Continue to give to our General Fund, and UK donors please contribute to our JustGiving page so we can receive gift aid: justgiving.com/page/thesamee…. Thank you for being a part of these children’s education.
