1: a book id had for ages and hadn’t read. Once I started I flew thru it. Humanised people who’s surnames are everywhere and introduced people who I’d never heard of, including the British agents officers and rulers

I think the guy flipping burgers at McDonald’s should be able to afford rent, bills, and groceries with his paycheck alone. That’s kind of the whole point of having a job and I can’t believe this is considered a radical position for me to take.

A lot of you from outside Ireland are probably hearing about the Garvaghy Road and wondering what all the fuss is about.
1998 -
After the parade was banned from marching on the Garvaghy Rd, ten Catholic churches were set on fire across Ulster in one night.
In the following days, loyalists attacked Catholic homes, schools and businesses. Multiple houses were petrol-bombed, resulting in the murder of 3 young boys, the Quinn brothers. Their home was targeted because their mother was Catholic.
She mother woke to the sound of her children screaming in fear and the house full of smoke. Sadly the boys, Jason, Mark and Richard, did not make it out.
Garfield Gilmour was sentenced to life in prison after he admitted to driving three members of a UVF unit to the house, but later that was reduced to manslaughter.
Johnny McKay and brothers Raymond and Ivan Parke were named by Gilmour as the killers, but were never charged because of a lack of evidence.
In the days following the murders, loyalist bands defied orders not to play music while marching passed the home of the Quinn boys grandmother.
Tonight, a court overturned an earlier ruling banning the parade from marching on the Garvaghy Road, crowds have gathered and confrontation now seems inevitable with that march set to go ahead early Sunday morning.
The courts allowing this march to go ahead is absolute madness!

As @4noura explains, the International Criminal Court spent over two decades indicting African and Arab leaders. Now that the ICC is coming for Israel, the US wants to destroy it.

I have not forgotten, and I will never forget, what Israel did to us when it bombed civilians who went to search for food from the trucks at a time when the famine had reached its absolute peak.
This happened two years ago.

An investigation by the Israeli outlet HaMakom (המקום הכי חם בגיהנום) reports that soldiers from the Nahal Brigade’s 50th Battalion found an elderly Palestinian woman in a combat zone in Gaza and decided to evacuate her.
She was bound and blindfolded and placed in a military vehicle with three soldiers. According to testimony collected by HaMakom, the officer accompanying her received a phone call, stopped the vehicle, took the elderly woman out, and shot her dead.
One soldier described it as “the execution of an elderly woman who was supposed to be evacuated.”

The complicity is undeniable.

In the 1950s, Ella Fitzgerald was not allowed to play Hollywood's most popular nightclub, Mocambo, because of her race.
Marilyn Monroe, who was a big fan, called the owner & told him that if he booked Ella, Marilyn would be there every night - which guaranteed huge press coverage.
He booked Ella and Marilyn was there, front table, every night. Ella said, "After that, I never had to play a small jazz club again. She was an unusual woman - a little ahead of her times. And she didn't know it."

NEW: Patriots Owner Robert Kraft said he has spent years “building bridges.” So we counted every dollar Kraft’s foundation has donated to the Friends of the IDF (+ other Israeli military groups) over the past 20 years, as well as to several pro-Israel groups known for espousing Islamophobia and denial of Israel’s genocide of Palestinians in Gaza.

Amidst Israel's ongoing ethnic cleansing campaign in the West Bank, Palestinian human rights defenders like Eid al-Hathaleen refuse to be silenced, fighting peacefully to protect their communities against erasure and uprooting.
As we mark two years since the UN General Assembly's Resolution demanding an end to Israel's unlawful occupation of Palestinian territory, join Eid and his community to demand an end to Israel's system of apartheid, occupation and state-backed settler violence.

CNN documented israeli settlers kidnapping and blindfolding a Palestinian farmer for refusing to leave his own land, while IDF soldiers stood guard. He was later shot dead, as the IDF blocked roads and prevented life-saving aid from reaching him.
This is the reality of the occupation.
