We live in perhaps the most dangerous paradox of modern times: we have unlimited access to information, yet limited understanding. We are hyper-connected, yet deeply divided. We are drowning in content, yet starved of meaning. Our team at @codastory and @zegfest is figuring out how we address this paradox and I am documenting the journey here linkedin.com/pulse/why-noise…
So excited to hand over our editorial to the great Simon Allison!
Coda Story names Simon Allison Editor-in-Chief. The co-founder and former Editor-in-Chief of The Continent will lead Coda's journalism as we expand our early-warning reporting and build new ways to reach audiences. Natalia Antelava moves to Publisher and CEO.

What shall we pray to, if Silicon Valley evangelists team up with the Vatican and promote coexistence with AI?

“Such a dick move.” That’s one mathematician talking to @simonallison about another mathematician taking a job at OpenAI.
SO much drama in the maths world and, turns out, so relevant to all of us.

Curious about the smartest people on earth? Then sign up for The Atlas. In the latest issue we report on a crazy scramble at the heart of the AI boom: the race to “solve maths” and how the hunt for mathematical talent is changing the foundations of human knowledge.
Head to theatlasnewspaper.org to sign up and get your copy via email or (and I encourage the second) via Signal so that you can easily pass the issue on to those who might need to read it.
@AtlasPaper is designed to travel reader to reader. Kind of like samizdat for the age of AI and here’s why we started it

The people building AI increasingly sound like theologians.
“Magic intelligence in the sky.”
Warnings of an “antichrist.”
The idea that building superintelligent AI means building God.
Which is why the Vatican is paying attention.
In Rome, the debate over AI is not only about regulation or innovation. It is also about limits, mortality, creation — and the line between creator and created.
Our @CodaStory team worked with the BBC to report from Rome on the Vatican’s AI battle — and the deeper question underneath it:
What happens when Silicon Valley’s ambitions collide with one of the world’s oldest religious institutions?

btw the fact it appears I’m the first person to share this transcript on here and LinkedIn sort of makes @antelava’s point. Why so many subpoenas were needed in 4 courts they’ve been adjudicated an illegal monopolist in search, search text ads, exchanges, ad server and App Store.

Thread + piece both worth reading. There was *never* a time when large scale tech companies were allied to journalism, only a time when they were compelled to be more so by the threat of regulation. I know not every journalist agrees with me or @antelava . Issue remains urgent

Wow wow... At a time where we yearn for journalists holding power to account, asking the tough questions, this is the most impressive I’ve seen in years. And the power here is Google. You never see consequential tech executives get interviewed like this. For the reason below. /1

“Can I do one more Lebedev?”
@pcaruanagalizia, Ed Caesar & @OliverBullough trade anecdotes on Lord of Siberia Evgeny Lebedev: his diets, hobbies, bugbears. Stories of oligarchy must reach a wide audience, says @pcaruanagalizia. To draw people in, start with the absurd. #ZEG2025
