I don't remember my grandfather enough to know what he would think about a lot of things. He died a week after my sixth birthday. From everything I do remember (mostly just vibes and family stories) she's probably correct.
If there's any individual living or dead that I wish I could sit down with and just ask questions to indefinitely, it'd probably be him.
Ed wonders how their grandfather would feel about his Grandchildren reclaiming Austrian citizenship almost 100 years following his leaving, and the subsequent book his granddaughter (guest @anne_hand ) wrote about the process.

My sister @Anne_Hand joined me to talk about "Austrian Again", the book that grew out of her effort to reclaim our family’s Austrian citizenship. We talked about our grandfather, the gaps in the family record, and what it means to reopen a door he chose to close.

My most meaningful podcast - talking about our family history and story with my brother. Lucky to get to share this Austrian Again journey with him. Enjoy ❤️

I suppose it's interesting that I never thought of Austrian Again's journey as interesting - more like something I did, and ended up wanted to document and share for many reasons, both personal and in the grand scheme of things. Thanks @EdHand89 for considering it interesting!
In our next episode, @EdHand89's sister @Anne_Hand joins us to talk about her critically acclaimed book "Austrian Again: Reclaiming a Lost Legacy."
It tells the story their grandfather coming to the US to the US, and Anne's quest to regain Austrian citizenship 80+ years later.

Thank you Matt Crawford at the Curious Mans Podcast for a thoughtful conversation about Austrian Again. I'm struck by how these conversations take different directions, but understanding family histories and what they mean today are always a through-line. thecuriousmanspodcast.libsyn…
It's a really special thing when your hometown library has your book stocked (and it's checked out!!!). To me, Austrian Again is about home and belonging, finding or building that wherever we may be @ActonMAGov has given me so much. Thank you @ActonMemLibrary I'm so honored
Thank you everyone who made a great weekend at #ALA2026. @AmsterdamPB gave me + other independent authors a platform to talk about our books + the threads weaving our stories together. All the librarians, authors, publishers + everyone else taking time to engage with our stories.
Wonderful evening in Chicagoland at Congregation B'nai Tikvah with my fellow authors from @AmsterdamPB. Our Memory Keepers panel and event was a huge success. I'm so happy to ensure our meaningful stories continue to find their way in the world.
