I don't care what people say, I like Tom Cruise. He works his ass off and never ever quits. He's one of the few true movie stars.

they will try to turn your heart against pride & prejudice 2005 but it is culturally immovable. an imperfect adaptation and a perfect film. the experience is magnificent in every sense of the word. you will have to crucify me for it.

I didn’t know he passed. He was always my favorite part of going to see a movie at Lincoln Square.

It breaks my heart to see one of the most racist countries in history (argentina) lose to one of the least racist countries in history (england) in something as politically important as soccer

Humanity, created by God in all its grandeur, is today facing a pivotal choice: either to construct a new Tower of Babel or to build the city in which God and humanity dwell together. In Jesus Christ, this humanity in its grandeur becomes the Way, the Truth and the Life, opening the path for each of us to grow toward fullness. #MagnificaHumanitas

This pap smear discourse is doing the same thing as recent "birth control is evil" discourse and taking a good conversation (why is pain normalized in gynecological procedures?) and taking it to the extreme (they're always painful and I'll never do it). A great alternative here:

Today we celebrate World Press Freedom Day, sponsored by UNESCO. Unfortunately, this right is often violated, sometimes flagrantly, sometimes in hidden ways. Let us remember the many journalists and reporters who are victims of war and violence.

BIG MOTHER JONES SCOOP: There are many unresolved health/environmental concerns with glyphosate (a.k.a. Roundup), but the USG keeps letting farmers, companies and public agencies spray it all over—including, as we learned, in America’s forests.

When simulation becomes the norm, it weakens the human capacity for discernment. As a result, our social bonds close in upon themselves, forming self-referential circuits that no longer expose us to reality. We thus come to live within bubbles, impermeable to one another. Feeling threatened by anyone who is different, we grow unaccustomed to encounter and dialogue. In this way, polarization, conflict, fear and violence spread. What is at stake is not merely the risk of error, but a transformation in our very relationship with truth.

We're sharing a GoFundMe for our longtime chefs Kervens, who has worked with Nitehawk Williamsburg since high school and has grown into a phenomenal chef. His positive energy, infectious smile, can-do attitude and culinary skills are part of what makes our food so delicious. 🧵

Minutes after the Air Canada CRJ-900 collided with a fire truck on Runway 4 at LaGuardia Airport last night, killing both pilots, the air traffic controller's voice was captured on LiveATC audio.
"That wasn't good to watch," a voice is heard saying on the frequency. The controller replies: "Yeah, I know. I was here. I tried to reach out. We were dealing with an emergency earlier. I messed up." The other voice responds: "Nah man, you did the best you could," according to Newsweek and CBC News.
The controller had been working alone, handling both ground and tower operations. A United Airlines flight had aborted takeoff due to a warning light and a cabin odor that sickened the flight attendants. The controller cleared a fire truck to cross Runway 4 to reach the United plane. Seconds later, he realized Air Canada Flight 8646 was still rolling down the same runway after landing, according to CNN.
"Stop, stop, stop, Truck 1, stop!" he shouted. It was too late.
After the collision, the controller ordered an approaching Delta flight to go around, closed the runway, and called in additional emergency vehicles. According to aviation insider JonNYC, he then continued working alone for over an hour after the crash, guiding remaining planes back to their gates because there was no one to relieve him until morning.
