Some of the most harmful laws for DV victims are anti-immigrant laws perversely framed around "protecting" women. In reality these laws put immigrant victims at exponentially greater risk, give their abusers/exploitative employers exponentially more power to threaten them, etc
Inside an ICE facility, women talked about the 911 calls that landed them there — from men who had beat them, choked them, threatened deportation.
“I had suffered from domestic violence,” one woman said. “But the one who ended up in trouble was me.”

Sometimes I forget I lived decently far north for a while, where the sun DOES rise at 8:30 am and sets at 4:30 pm in the winter even with changing the clocks

We cannot let these horrific stories fall through the cracks or become numb to them. This is ICE serving its purpose of terror and dehumanization, and it cannot be divorced from that purpose, it cannot be reformed
Yesterday morning, Emiliano Andrade-Covarrubias was found dead a Laredo federal immigration facility.
He was 56, a Dallas resident, and father of three US citizens.
His daughter told us that his health problems were ignored by staff.

There's also some ableism in people's judgments here. The idea that people should value keeping an appendage over the risks of the procedure, time lost, quality of life, etc. is based on a reaction to visible disability imo

There’s a larger conversation here about how black children are demonized and policed for just hanging around in public, that could be traced all the way back to reconstruction era truancy laws that were used to reenslave black people under the 13th amendment.

As long as we’re talking about anecdotal experience… I approached the elevator at the Dupont metro with my 2 year old in a stroller in afterschool hours recently, and the crowd of teens stepped aside, with one boy saying “let Mom go first” so I mean, experience may vary
This rhetoric, while attuned with the larger attack on trans people, is actually about dismantling public education. Of course it's not true, they don't care that it isn't. They want to demonize public schools and privatize education.
I have gone from Louisiana to Virginia by car and it was fully a two day drive

This will get overshadowed by the attack on an American journalist, but half an hour after Heidi was beaten, the IDF shot a Palestinian man simply standing inside his own village.
Then the soldiers pointed an assault rifle at the paramedics trying to help the victim.

This video captures settlers beating Heidi. They clubbed her, kicked her. Pulled her up off the ground to beat her more. Robbed her of all her equipment. If she didn’t have a helmet—and if she was Palestinian—she could be dead.

Had a meeting at my old college campus today. Walking around brought back so many memories…the library where I wanted to die, the dorms where I wanted to die, the Starbucks where I wanted to die, the park where I wanted to die, the other Starbucks where I wanted to die
I know my specific life circumstances have given me more than average knowledge on the government and a particular perspective on the DoD but c'mon guys 😭😭
