I get a gross feeling whenever I read AI generated text in the next fest demos from games I otherwise thought were going to be well designed.

And then I start to question the design choices

Don't let billionaires convince you slop is the future. They're used to managing & directing, not making things themselves. Of course they can't see the difference. They don't understand your love for the craft. Keep making personal, beautiful games. You've got my support 💖

Are adventure games the only genre safe from AI clones, due to the tight integration of puzzles and story?

Lots of people are messaging me that my game has been cloned on Roblox but I'm not concerned about it for a few reasons: - I am not the first person to invent zombie outbreak simulators. There's a lot of prior-work that I've been inspired by and I hope that Zombies Aren't Real will continue to inspire more people to iterate in the genre - What I'm building is very complex. Anyone can make something that looks similar but it won't have the same feel and balance of what I'm building. I believe Zombies Aren't Real will stand on it's own and be valuable despite clones To be clear, some games are more at risk of being hurt by clones than others. Wordle is a great example, you can express the entire game in a sentence or two. Someone could build off of that sentence and totally steal your thunder. Contrarily, Breath of the Wild is extremely complex with hand crafted environments. A clone wouldn't feel the same or offer the same experience. Games exist on a spectrum of "Remix" to "Ripoff". Some games are clearly ripoffs and are a net-negative for the industry and some of remixes which are a net-positive!Roguelikes, First Person Shooters (doom-like!), etc If you're a dev and worried about how clones might hurt you there's a few precautions you can take (this is my opinion, take it with a grain of salt): - Get your steampage up before you do anything public so if you do go viral, the audience goes to the right place - Know which kind of game your game is. If it is very idea-heavy (wordle, needle in a haystack), it might be best to have the game nearly done before posting about it - If your game is execution-heavy, I don't think you need to worry about clones at all. I could be wrong, but this is the bet I'm taking so if I'm wrong I'll feel the pain myself.
The longer I work on games, the less worried I am about my game being cloned because executing well on an idea is extremely difficult to do. I could publicly share the entire idea of my game and I have very high confidence that any clones wouldn't come close to delivering on the idea the way that I am.

If this trend continues it will result in worse games and negative launch day reviews. Play testing is vital to good design.

Why do people think that the AI clone games will take off by being first to market? We all have the same problem with visibility.

I just want to make stuff and be creative. Why must the entire world conspire to get in the way of that?
