The recent violence against Christians and Orthodox churches in Arsi isn't just another local clash or random violence. It is part of a clear, deliberate pattern that has become a primary governing framework in Ethiopia since 2018. When leaders in the federal government and Oromia region embrace an exclusionary Oromummaa political ideology as their guiding philosophy, anti-Orthodox hostility becomes official state practice across five key areas. 1. POLITICAL: The attacks in Arsi aren't accidental. Federal and regional officials have spent years labeling the Orthodox Church as a political tool of the past to turn people against it. The goal is simple: weaken the Church’s independence, silence its voice, and force it under complete state control. 2. CULTURAL: When top leaders and opinion makers talk about centuries-old Orthodox heritage, ancient manuscripts, holy sites, and traditions as symbols of oppression, they give a green light to destroy them. The burning and tearing down of churches and massing its followers is the direct result of this hateful narrative coming from the top leaders, the elites, and the opinion makers. 3. RELIGIOUS: Instead of addressing legitimate community needs in good faith, authorities are actively tearing the Church apart from within. Federal and state officials have hijacked internal church issues to split leadership, force out uncooperative clergy, and install figures who will do the government's political oromumma bidding. 4. ECONOMIC: Destroying homes, taking farms, and burning down local shops isn't just mindless destruction. It is meant to ruin lives permanently. By turning a blind eye to the economic destruction of Christians, state and federal leaders are trying to force people off their land and change the region's demographics forever. 5. PHYSICAL: The state’s primary job is to keep its people safe, but in the Oromia regional state, security forces stood by while innocent believers and priests were attacked or, in some cases, actively participated. Abiy Ahmed and Oromia’s regional leaders hold direct command-level responsibility for these security failures and the complete lack of justice for victims. We cannot let the government dismiss what happened in Arsi as an isolated incident or routine conflict. It is the direct result of an ideology that has been built into the highest levels of government since Abiy came to power in 2018. Abiy Ahmed, federal officials, and Oromia regional leaders are fully accountable for turning state power against Orthodox Christians and destroying their communities.

At least 47 Orthodox Christians were killed in a late-night attack in Shirka Woreda, in Ethiopia’s Oromia Region, Borkena news reports. Armed groups surrounded farming families in their homes around 10:00 PM, blocked the exits, opened fire and set the houses on fire. Local sources told Borkena the attackers included local armed groups and others from the neighboring Bale Zone. Residents asked police to step in, but the outlet reports that officers did not act, saying they had no official orders. Families are now burying their dead among the ashes of their homes. Let us pray for an end to the persecution of Christians in Ethiopia. #EthiopiaNews #ChristianPersecution #OrthodoxChristians #ReligiousFreedom #PrayForEthiopia #shalomworldnews

💔 ARSI, ETHIOPIA A PEOPLE IN TEARS, A WORLD IN SILENCE. More than 47 Amhara Orthodox Christians were reportedly massacred in Birbilo and Chole kebeles, Guna District, Arsi Sharka, Oromia Region. Thirty-six victims were buried in a mass grave. 💔 Medhane Alem Church was reportedly stormed, and its guard killed. Civilians were allegedly hunted in their homes, forests, and fields throughout a night of unimaginable terror. Witnesses accuse Shene and the Oromia Special Force, known as Repi Lola (Ripe Lola), of carrying out the massacre with the backing of government structures. How many mothers must weep over their children? How many families must bury their loved ones together? How many innocent lives must be lost while the world remains silent? These were not just numbers. They were someone's children, parents, and entire world. Their graves are filled, but their families' hearts will never be whole again. 💔 May God rest their souls in eternal peace. May their suffering never be forgotten, and may those responsible face justice. THEIR LIVES MATTERED. THEIR SUFFERING MUST BE HEARD. THEIR MEMORY MUST NEVER DIE. @SecRubio @kajakallas @volker_turk @AsstSecStateAF @achpr_cadhp @POTUS @JosepBorrellF @EUSR_Weber @AmnestyEARO @hrw @achpr_cadhp @AUC_PAPS @ECLJ_Official @UN_HRC @USEmbassyAddis @EP_ForeignAff @EP_HumanRights @Teresaribera @magnusbrunner @ExtSpoxEU @vonderleyen @ECHO_CESAfrica #EOTCUnderAttack #AmharaGenocide #ArsiEthiopia

Ms. Ingraham, I am deeply grateful for highlighting this. The structural violence against Ethiopian Orthodox Christians, heirs to one of the oldest Christian traditions in existence, deserves far greater international attention. Ethiopia, the world's second oldest Christian nation, has preserved extraordinary treasures of Christian civilization, including the Book of Enoch and the Book of Jubilees. What is at stake is not merely religious persecution but the danger of civilizational erasure. At the very centre of this tragedy stands Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed, whose government I believe bears responsibility for the systematic assault on this ancient Christian heritage. I am equally concerned about his government's relationship with the United Arab Emirates and what I regard as its role as a UAE proxy. The silence of those who profess to defend human rights and religious freedom is profoundly disturbing.
Where are the condemnations from entertainers, social media influencers, and Democrats so-called civil rights warriors?

I write this message today not merely with words, but with the heavy, unendurable weight of grief, mourning, and a desperate plea for recognition. Behind the statistics are human faces mothers, fathers, children, and believers whose only crime was their identity and their faith. The image of mass graves holding innocent Orthodox Christians predominantly #Amharas slaughtered and buried together is a chilling testament to a profound tragedy unfolding in plain sight. This is not a distant relic of history; it is a living, breathing nightmare occurring daily. The Ongoing Crisis: More than sixty #Christians have been brutally murdered in Arsi. In Wellega, the blood of #Amharas continues to be shed on a daily basis. The Cry for Accountability: Communities are targeted systematically, their lives cut short while the cries for justice echo into a vacuum of international indifference. My Urgent Questions to the Global Community I ask international bodies and global leaders to answer these haunting questions: - How many #Amhara people must be killed before the world responds with the urgency, gravity, and seriousness this atrocity demands? - How many Orthodox Christians must perish before international mechanisms are triggered to demand true accountability from the authorities in power? - How much innocent blood must soak the soil before global organizations look past political convenience and confront the grim reality on the ground? A Call to Action Human rights know no borders, and the right to life is universal. I as a human being implore international bodies, human rights monitors, and influential governments to rise above silence: Acknowledge the Reality: Recognize the severity of the violence and the systematic targeting of vulnerable communities. Demand Accountability: Hold responsible authorities answerable for every single life lost and every drop of blood spilled. Protect the Vulnerable: Deploy independent investigations and offer immediate protection to populations living under the constant shadow of violence. The earth has swallowed too many innocent souls. The time to act with moral clarity, courage, and compassion is long overdue. @UNHumanRights @_AfricanUnion @EU_HRA @StateDept @FCDOGovUK @GlobalCanadaEN

The hidden genocide in Ethiopia’s Oromia region: Reports show that the death toll in Wellega has increased to the hundreds due to state-sponsored genocide committed by Abiy Ahmed’s ENDF alongside Oromo regional forces against Orthodox civilians, mainly ethnic Amharas.
Ethiopia: Abiy Ahmed’s Oromo mercenaries are killing civilian Christians, who are ethnic Amharas, in East Wollega, while the PM is drone-striking schools and hospitals in the Amhara and Tigray regions. The picture depicts a priest who was killed by Abiy’s Geda mercenaries.

Check out how brutally Christians in Ethiopia are being persecuted. This isn’t an isolated incident. It is just one of many serious instances of genocidal violence against Christians and Christianity. All happening with the complicity and direct involvement of @AbiyAhmedAli's government. xitter.cf/ChristianEmerg1/status…
Ethiopia: At least 47 Ethiopian Christians were killed, and another 18 hospitalized, in coordinated attacks targeting them in the Oromia region. Surviving witnesses claimed regional authorities collaborated with Islamist militias to carry out the massacre. Church leaders have repeatedly warned local authorities about armed groups entering the area, but received no serious response. This is not an isolated incident, but rather part of a pattern of targeted attacks against Ethiopian Christians, who militants conflate with Amhara ethnicity. This fusion of religious and ethnic violence against innocent Christians and their churches must not be tolerated. We condemn these evil acts and call for the protection of Ethiopia’s Christians.
