Are Nigerians mad? Sometimes I genuinely think we are, because the things we normalize in this country cannot make sense anywhere else on earth. Before you even move into your own house in Lagos, you must first battle area boys and pay Omonile like you committed a crime for simply wanting to exist. In some communities, omonile collect money before you can dig, build, fence, renovate or before you even breathe too deep. Then there is the madness with community infrastructure. Government or private bodies try to fix roads or bring development to an area, and instead of supporting it, community members demand “compensation” for something that would actually benefit them. Like you are asking to be paid so your own life can improve? Let me give you a personal example. My FiberOne network went bad. I called them to fix it. Weeks passed nothing. I was getting frustrated until I found out from one of the technicians the he came but area boys blocked them and demanded N250k before the could work. How do you fix a place where development has gatekeepers? And it didn’t stop there. We had serious electricity issues too barely two hours of light a day. Some days? Complete blackout for three straight days. Everybody in the area was complaining, shouting, dragging NEPA. Only for us to later discover the real cause: The DISCO had actually wanted to move our area to Band A so we get reasonable electricity. So what happened? Some people in the neighborhood rejected Band A because they felt it was “too expensive.” So the rest of us lived in darkness because some people didn’t want to pay for the electricity they would enjoy and the rest of us had to suffer with them. I mean misery loves company right? How do you build a functioning society when your biggest enemy is not even the government, it is your neighbor? Then there is the entitlement around basic services. Nigerians will use expensive phones, drive expensive cars and travel abroad for vacation frequently but refuse to pay N6k per month for refuse disposal. And you wonder why people use the word “animals”? Some Nigerians behave worse than pigs and rats. A working Nigeria would expose too many people, and that’s why a lot of Nigerians quietly fear order, structure, and accountability. It would remove the chaos that many use as cover for bad behavior. All of this stems from the same sickness: A false belief, sold since the 70s, that government money is infinite and citizens have no responsibility. Everyone wants development, but nobody wants to pay for it or protect it. Everyone wants structure, but everyone also wants to manipulate it to their personal advantage. We blame leadership yes, valid. But the society? The people? Many are active saboteurs of their own progress. ❌ From area boys blocking infrastructure ❌ To omonile extorting landowners ❌ To residents refusing to pay for waste management ❌ To sabotaging electricity upgrades ❌ To constantly acting shocked that nothing works Sometimes, you look around and realize: A functional Nigeria is incompatible with the behavior of many Nigerians. And that is the real tragedy.

“If you are smart, why did you graduate with a Second Class Lower?” Job interviews in Nigeria are humiliation rituals
I was interviewing a young lady this morning who graduated with a Second Class Lower degree. She insisted that she was smart. I then asked her, “If you are smart, why did you graduate with a Second Class Lower?” She suddenly broke down in tears. I asked her why she was crying, and she explained that she lost her mother in her first year at university and her father in her second year. The emotional trauma affected her concentration, and she struggled to complete her education while dealing with the pain of losing both parents. I will give her a chance to prove herself. But this experience has left me with a troubling question: Does our education system make adequate provisions for young people who go through such devastating experiences? How many brilliant young people have we written off because their grades failed to reflect their true abilities, without ever asking what they went through?

We need to build a database of trusted supermarkets and online platforms that sell authentic products, ideally sourced directly from manufacturers or authorised distributors. Please drop your recommendations. Let’s build a reliable list people can trust.

Just find a mid-level person who’s hungry enough to see your product succeed. Give them the time, resources, and support they need to grow with the business. No senior level person would take that offer seriously. At best, they’d treat your business like a side hustle 😂😂
i wasn't joking when i said good growth people are becoming some of the hardest people to hire in tech. i need someone who's actually grown a fintech product and has the numbers to show for it. not just impressions and engagement. ₦450k–₦650k/month. Remote. if you know someone who fits, please tag them. i really want to close this role.

Olamide (Gruve Tickets) sits down with Buttercup (@DunnsOftheBuj ), an entertainment consultant and event producer, to talk about what really causes events to fall apart and what organizers can do differently. Never been more grateful for my Nigerian passport.😂 The queue in passport control is so long for those with UK, EU, Canada and co passports while the 'Other Passports' line has been smooth sailing.😂
