Reading the NY Times. It’s hard to take an article seriously that contains the phrase “120th percentile”

The CDC does define obesity as having a BMI above the 95th percentile, in a specific sample of children in the year 2000. And they define the 2nd group as those with a BMI above 120% of the 95th percentile BMI value. Somehow this got rendered as “the 120th percentile”

One of the greatest improvements to our recruiting process was introducing a Triplebyte screener. Unaffiliated, just think it's a great product that lets us skim 90% of applicants before investing in them.

We were inspired by the open source community. We're funding Jehron so that he can build a great nonprofit that shares our mission. It's a novel structure. But the status quo is not working.

We need to experiment with new things. I believe in Jehron, and I'm thrilled to see ColorStack launch nationally.

As a teenager, I idolized Scott Alexander of SlateStarCodex, who wrote deep, compassionate and fascinating stuff about politics, history, medicine, AI, charitable giving, depression and anxiety, rationality, language and how we think about the world. As an adult, I met him.

Police violence and racism against black men and boys in the US must end. The status quo is not OK. We stand in solidarity with protesters trying to end this senseless violence. Black lives matter.

Virtual interviews are just as important as on-site interviews. Show up on time. Engage. Don't multitask. These little things go a long way toward closing great candidates.

The # of remote companies was growing 10% YoY before COVID. Whether COVID will accelerate/decelerate this is an open question (I lean accelerate). But regardless, tools for remote organizations are a BIG opportunity.

Self doubt is the #1 force keeping engineers from applying to your startup. We called several hundred who bounced before our interview. They all wanted the job, but did not think they were "ready." They were disproportionately from diverse backgrounds. Most never came back.
