Delhi: On the two-day extension of judicial custody for Cockroach Janta Party leaders Saurav Das and Ashutosh Ranka, Advocate Abhik Chimni says, "Today, when we reached the court, the five-day custody period had ended. On the last date of hearing, the court had stated that it did not find the sureties legitimate enough to be accepted. Today, we produced fresh sureties and brought them to court. When our matter was taken up, the State filed a fresh application, which was served on us at that point. In this application, they sought a further five to seven days of judicial custody. The reasons they gave were absolutely shocking to us. They claimed there was an imminent threat to public order and public tranquillity and that, therefore, the accused needed to remain in judicial custody... It is very unfortunate, and everyone must remember that there is currently no FIR against my clients in connection with this issue. This concerns preventive custody. They have been detained out of fear that they might go and protest. There is no FIR, no pending case against them in this matter, and no investigation for which they need to be questioned. This is absolutely appalling and deeply disturbing. I cannot remember the last time people were kept in preventive custody under such circumstances. We will pursue the matter legally, but this has been hugely disappointing for all of us."

People can have differences and nuanced takes on CJP but it is inexcusable to remain silent on the custody of Ashutosh and Saurav. This is an egregious violation of a citizen's liberty. Please speak up. If not on principle, than in self-interest, for this is setting a precedent.

A few years ago, Ashu had a high-paying corporate job in London, earning millions. Saurav was writing about the country’s legal system and living a great life. Both had successful careers, financial security and every reason to continue living the lives they had built for themselves. But they chose to give it all up in the hope of making this country a better place. They had absolutely no reason to leave behind their comfortable lives, take to the streets, face uncertainty and eventually end up in jail. Yet they did. What I admire most about these two is that despite coming from privileged backgrounds, they chose to fight for those who aren’t as fortunate. They could have easily looked the other way, enjoyed their lives and never bothered about the struggles of people they had never even met. Nobody asked them to make these sacrifices. Nobody expected them to. But they did, because they genuinely care about people beyond themselves. And to me, that is the greatest quality a human being can have. To stand up for people you don’t know, to fight battles that aren’t your own, and to risk everything you have so that someone else might have a better life. That’s the kind of people Ashu and Saurav are.

Earlier today, several women’s and students’ organisations held a protest at the Delhi Police headquarters against sexualised and gendered violence by security forces against protesters. Vani Subramanian, a filmmaker and feminist activist, says that a senior official met them and promised a meeting with the commissioner within two days. Video by Puja Sen (@psen9)

State surveillance meets citizen software. They removed the name plates. He built the recognition. This Gen Z innovator just did what the system refuses to: made accountability possible. While Delhi Police deploys facial recognition on protesters (and produces lists full of people who were literally in jail), and officers quietly drop their name plates to stay anonymous during crackdowns, a young developer built an open-source FRT tool that works the other way — identifying officers filmed brutalizing protesters, especially women. No name plate? No problem. The tool estimates matches from open data and public footage. Misconduct is not “fair,” and hiding behind a uniform doesn’t erase what cameras already captured. This is citizen technology flipping the surveillance script. When the state uses AI to watch the people, the people can use AI to watch back. Open-source means anyone can build on it, audit it, and improve it — no permission required. Respect to this kid. So proud of him. Accountability doesn’t need a badge. It needs tools and the will to use them. #PoliceAccountability #GenZ #FacialRecognition #DelhiPolice #RightToProtest #OpenSource

Mill-i-bhagat-ben.
Dhruv Rathee shouldn't protest, he lives in Germany. Ahijeet Dipke is foreign-funded, he came from USA to protest. Imran Khan should be deported, he's an Overseas Citizen of India. But Mary Millben can support BJP, because her names sounds Gujarati. Like Kantaben, Jasodaben, Millben.
