Here for the cute photos of @mar_to_go and @rockmarooned in their theme gear.
I did a deep dive into "theme dressing" — matching Halloween costumes/holiday PJs, vacation tees, event outfits — and the cultural changes that took me from having a reluctant, Gen X attitude toward it (don't be that guy) to an enthusiastic Millennial one.

Larch season is finally here. And it’s already almost over 🍂

I believe this visualizer is scientifically accurate, but it's still got some Steve Zissou-looking shit down there. Squidworm! Cookiecutter shark! Faceless fish!

You know you're a PNW local when perfect weather is too stressful.
"I look at the forecast, and I see little shiny suns all lined up in a row, and all I can think is...when will we finally get a break?"

It’s not the Space Needle or a ferry, but Aurora Ave is authentic Seattle in a way our tourist attractions never could be. My coworkers did a deep dive into Seattle’s arterial.
THREAD: As much as the Amazon orbs or the Space Needle, Aurora Avenue represents who are as a city, where we’re going, and where we came from.

Always loved this photo.
8:32 a.m. May 18, 1980: Mount St. Helens erupts and becomes the deadliest and most destructive volcanic eruption in U.S. history.
This hiker witnessed the eruption from neighboring Mount Adams, a moment captured by photographer John V. Christiansen.

ALT A series of two photographs depicting a hiker wearing yellow gaiters and an orange backpack standing on a snowy mountain summit, reacting to a violent eruption of volcanic ash on the neighboring mountain. In the first image, the hiker holds their hands on the side of their head, as if in shock. In the second image, the hiker is seated as they watch the eruption, as if overwhelmed by the moment.

There’s an ominous feeling in the air as everyone looks around at each other. A message crackles over the loudspeaker: "We’ve lost steering and propulsion. Brace for impact."

A thoughtful and beautiful essay from @therebeccasun. Reporting is not an impersonal act; it weaves into our own life until they both inform each other.

It's AWP time.
Literary events spring up across the city when @awpwriter comes to town. And because writers are, as a whole, party people, many include open bars, DJs, or other fun extras.

People keep tweeting about babies on planes and my hot takes are:
1) I fly a medium amount and have had a screaming baby close enough to annoy…maybe twice? But every flight has too-small seats, manspreading, manufactured fights over carryon space. Bigger fish to fry, people.
I grew up in a family of doctors who complained about the U.S. medical system over the holiday dinner table in the ‘80s. The last few weeks have been an astounding reintroduction into just how more fucked it is these days.
I have good insurance, live in a city known for its medical care, an endlessly accommodating employer, and a retired Harvard-educated MD in the family to pore over every test result and decision. And getting through a medium-level medical situation has nearly broken me.
I saw CHINATOWN for the first time last night and I know this is a hot take, but it features almost zero Asian actors (not sure the housekeeper/maid even has a line?) and the famous last line makes no sense?
