Bruce Straley, The Last of Us (2013) game director made some commentary on God of War Laufey and AAA gaming in general🚀 “God of War Laufey, I look at that game, and every pixel is mindblowing. The amount of work and skill that’s gone into every single frame… I’ve made those kinds of games, and I’m still blown away. But when I actually look at what you’re doing in the game? I’m not excited. And that’s nothing against the God of War team. Just, across the board in triple-A, it feels like there’s no opportunity to inject fresh, innovative ideas.” He couldn’t be more accurate, even though I personally find Laufey to be interesting in concept, based on what we’ve seen, but there really are no original ideas in most of gaming, AAA or indie. People tend to glaze indie games and shut down AAA, but both have just as much abundance of mediocrity or just average games. But generally speaking, there’s high productions standards, great attention to detail and amazing graphics and art style, but there really isn’t much else. I look back at retro games and there’s just so much fun to be had, platforming, puzzles, exploration, stylish combat, variety in set pieces…etc. Modern games are more or less pretty shallow, repetitive and lack any original ideas, and everything about them has been done so many times since 2013🎤 @bruce_straley
