It's important to understand that we build open source for us. If you want it to be built for you, then you can join us to help build it and then it will be built for you too. That's how it works.

Most of the problems in the (open source) software supply chain can be summarized as... "I want somebody else (my upstream) to solve the problems I am pushing to my customers (my downstream) for me with their own effort and money. I am focused on my products/services"

Kinda crazy to realize that it's a mere nine months until the next Java LTS release (21, due in September), with many teams just having moved to Java 11 not too long ago. I think as an industry we still must become much better with adopting new releases more quickly.

This is probably worth repeating regularly: open source is about making your problem upstream's problem.
If you do not support said upstream, it will quickly become your problem again.
Invest on your own future. Reduce your long term costs. Support your upstream.
