SOMETHING ROTTEN, my 3rd novel, arrives January 21 from @fsgbooks. It's about authenticity, mortality, masculinity, and, above all, the nature of truth.

surely OCD has a neurological basis? this tic-like, compulsive behavior? OCD-suffers are trapped in a labyrinth of pointless repetition; a living nightmare. feeling much sympathy for those so afflicted & for their long-suffering families.
Well into his adult life, right after the birth of his twins, Andrew Lipstein started experiencing O.C.D. “I wasn’t always like this,” he writes. “The suddenness of it all was terrifying, even paralyzing, and yet, at the same time, oddly relieving.” If such a severe thing could come on so quickly, perhaps it could go away just the same way. “No, it wouldn’t—that quickly became apparent,” he continues. “As did the fact that, unless I got help, I might lose the ability to function in everyday life. How could I return from my parental leave in this state and keep my job? How could I write books? How could I possibly be a parent and husband?” Lipstein chronicles the ongoing process of learning to live with severe O.C.D.—while writing a book, going to exposure therapy, and caring for his family: newyorkermag.visitlink.me/Oo…
For @NewYorker, I wrote about the year I spent in exposure therapy for OCD. In many ways, it was the worst year of my life. But in other ways, it was the best—not least because it radically changed how I think and feel.

The piece will also be performed on October 24 by Paul Dano at The New York Festival, in partnership with Theater of War.

First thing I’ve read since becoming a dad that captures how I feel: hard, boring, occasionally profound
“A benumbed state in which I forget I exist for anything but logistics. You transform but the old you stalks you” Really good @ailipstein gq.com/story/all-inclusive-r…

Why are millennials giving up on authentic travel and embracing water parks, buffets, and on-site nannies at all-inclusive resorts like Club Med? It's simple, @ailipstein argues: Modern parenting is hell gq.visitlink.me/gxm2Ea

Can't recommend SOMETHING ROTTEN by @ailipstein, published by @fsgbooks, enough. Truly the book I needed to read after my father's death on 9 January. It's amazing how sometimes the books find us when we need them most.
One of my first reads of 2025! You'll want to read it, too. Thank you, @fsgbooks, for the review copy of SOMETHING ROTTEN by @ailipstein!
