aw bud it'll hurt less in time
It’s funny seeing Knicks fans slowly realize that nobody cares about their Championship. It changed nothing. Nobody outside NYC has Brunson top 5. Nobody has him in any all-time talks. Nobody has him in “best of his generation” talks with Jokic SGA Giannis or Embiid. And everybody already knows he’s not winning another one so he’ll never make it to those talks. He doesn’t have the motion/too ugly to be a cover athlete. All the celebrity bandwagons and people who pretended to care have left by now. Everybody moved on to the World Cup. Brunson will retire and kids on TikTok will call him ball knowledge within 5 years. I almost feel bad. Literally all they got out of this was “No Larry?”

this is smart
Everyone blames screens for the decline of reading. Nobody blames the consolidated corporate publishing industry that made books pricier, more generic, and harder to find. jacobin.com/2026/10/books-pu…

when ur a writer who finds himself in academia, it's super important to remember that, no matter how annoying you may find some people around you, they all...know way more about their stuff than you. like be proud to be a gifted type typer but these folks have...learned stuff
Replying to @Tyler_A_Harper
So you have this woman in charge of the American Psychological Association, Rouse over at the American Anthropological Association, etc. It’s just not tenable to claim this stuff is minor or a right wing fever dream when these people keep getting put in charge of major orgs.

The tension of looking at a student's draft and being like, love this, can you talk a little about the short sentence construction and the one sentence paragraphs, it's an interesting stylistic choice...and what about the not this, not this, but this...really striking

imho we underrate that academia is ground zero for bad writers who hate writing but are invested in feeling smart
The head of the philosophy department at Williams College downplays the pedagogical value of writing: “What if we are mistaken in treating writing as the highest cultivation of thought? The evidence that supports this belief is thin at best. Writing can be useful cognitive scaffolding for memory and self-regulated learning, but the notion that it is the best process for developing thinking skills is a fairly recent idea, traceable to the 1970s writing-across-the-curriculum movement.”

he is writing to one audience: Pamela. He is trying to woo her back in her love language (book coverage that is really just bigotry). we are all eavesdropping on something profoundly intimate. thrilling.
they pay him to write this stuff

always promote the bookstore bar, never knock the hustle
You can’t make this up. It turns out the NYC school board member who plugged his & his wife’s new “equity” bar+bookstore for “DEI/banned” books at a school board meeting is the husband of author Nicole Hannah Jones, and is also - wait for it - the Chair of the Contracts Committee

there was a "lego artist" doing a community project at this outdoor festival in my city. Brought my kid over to discover they were shooing kids away because they might mess up the pattern or actually knock over some grown ups' hard work
anyone who's been to the lego aisle in a target can testify to this

Her kid...seems to be doing really well? And is thinking really clearly about hard things/feeling permission to talk about them with her parents? And sees what she's gotten out of her schools so far, as well as mourning what she hasn't?

regardless of your beliefs on issues of school choice, confidently calling someone you don't know a "bad parent" is pretty fucking insane
