In the debate surrounding the Eagle Hills deal, 'Dheenahtakaa, Qaumah takaa' argument is not a valid one. Instead, this needs to be a technical & academic discussion focused on our national FDI policy. There are several critical questions we should actually be raising regarding the RasMale' & Eagle Hills agreement:
**How much is the government spending on dredging RasMale', & does this deal match what we are getting in return in the short term? Are 5,000 flats enough of an upfront return?
**Is charging an acquisition cost necessary, or not?
**Did the government carry out a proper valuation of RasMale' & conduct a study on the opportunity cost of the deal?
**What is our red line for FDIs, & what standards will we be setting for foreign investors?
Ultimately, we need a deeper debate regarding the scale of FDIs in the Maldives so we can reach a unified consensus on our national policy approach. Read More: dhauru.com/post/report/46627

Normal rain fall for October in Malé: Monthly total: 205 - 230mm average, some climatologies put it up to 301mm. Rainy days: 11-16 days in the month. That works out to ∼7.5mm per day, or ∼13.4mm per rainy day.
What we're seeing now: Yesterday/today (Oct 21): ∼26.8mm total. Tonight/Tomorrow (Oct 22): ∼31.5mm forecast. Oct 23-25: 10-19mm per day.
So we're getting 2-3x the normal daily amount on consecutive days. If this pattern holds for the week, Malé could get 100mm+ in 5 days, which is nearly half the whole month's normal in less than a week.
Climate Change means we will get more rain in a short period of time.
