Congratulations to the WA Parish team and our partners on earning @POWERMagazine's 2026 Top Plant Water Award. Their work helped deliver a first-of-its-kind wastewater treatment system that reduces wastewater volume by nearly 93% and enables zero liquid discharge from flue gas desulfurization, all while supporting the reliable operation of one of the nation's largest power plants. Most Texans in the ERCOT market have access to dozens of retail electric providers (REPs), each offering electricity programs to suit consumer needs. In essence, REPs purchase power from generation companies that’s delivered through power lines to your home, with REPs taking on the risks of variable costs in the market.

Companies in ERCOT have installed over 4,500 MW of new solar capacity in the past year. Solar power has proven to effectively meet consumer daytime needs during the times of highest demand in the summer.

To power the future, we have to build the lines that get us there. High-voltage transmission and electric generation aren’t just infrastructure—they represent local jobs providing the backbone of local communities.

Due to increased wind shear across the Atlantic ocean and other factors, the Gulf Coast has seen significantly less tropical activity in 2026 compared with previous years. Hurricane season continues through November, so stay prepared.

Building and upgrading electric infrastructure is an important step for communities looking to grow, adding the families, jobs and long-term investment needed for Texas to thrive.

Texas benefits from a diverse mix of fuels for generating electricity. Natural gas, wind, solar power, nuclear power and coal all have roles in the market, and maximizing the availability of each depends on a robust, interconnected transmission network.

With dozens of retail electric providers (REPs) offering hundreds of plans in the competitive electric market, consumers can search for the type of service to best suit their needs and lifestyles. Start your research with PowertoChoose.org, and talk through the options with your current REP.

Texas summers are hot! In July, ERCOT set peak demand record of 91.1 GW of electricity demand, with several peak demands set along the way. This is a 5.5 GW increase over the previous annual peak demand record, yet ERCOT faced no electric supply shortages, indicating reliable summer operations.

Helping students succeed starts with meeting basic needs. 💙 Through the 2026 TNMP Power Grant program, the TNMP Foundation awarded the College of the Mainland Foundation a $7,500 grant to support the COM Market, a campus food pantry that serves students in partnership with the Galveston County Food Bank. The College of the Mainland Foundation was one of 43 nonprofit organizations across Texas selected to receive funding through this year's Power Grant program. During our visit, we had the opportunity to see the COM Market in its early stages and learn more about its impact on students and the community. The grant funds will help expand the market through the addition of another freezer and more shelving, allowing the pantry to increase storage capacity and serve even more students in need. We are proud to support programs that help remove barriers to education and create opportunities for student success. Thank you, College of the Mainland Foundation, for the difference you're making in the lives of students every day. #COM #PowerGrant #CommunityImpact #StudentSuccess #PoweringCommunitiesTogether 💙 @COMDucks

Historic investment. Lasting impact. With support from a $50 million @ENERGY grant, we're bringing next-generation substation technology to existing infrastructure, helping enhance reliability and meet growing energy demands across the Greater Houston region. The investment is also expected to create more than 500 local jobs to support project construction and installation - delivering benefits for both the grid and the communities we serve.

Transmitting and distributing electricity is a cash-negative business, requiring utilities to take out loans long, often years before they can begin recovering costs. Finding the proper balance between short-term costs and long-term benefits to consumers is one of the key roles of the Public Utility Commission of Texas.
