In celebration of National Preparedness Month, the CenterPoint Energy Foundation visited the Salvation Army of Houston’s Multi-Purpose Distribution Center to highlight the impact of a $1 million grant awarded in 2025.
The funds will strengthen the Salvation Army’s disaster preparedness and response capabilities across Greater Houston. We’ve seen many times the remarkable impact the Salvation Army has had in Houston during times of crisis, including providing 132,000 meals and Meals Ready to Eats (MRE) in 2024.
Together, the Centerpoint Energy Foundation and Salvation Army of Houston are creating a more sustainable, livable Houston by ensuring the most vulnerable residents can be reached and cared for during hurricanes, heat waves and other severe weather events.
Being prepared for severe weather means more than having a plan. It means investing time and resources in the organizations that help our communities prepare, respond and recover from emergencies.
This National Preparedness Month, we donated $30,000 to four nonprofits that provide food, emergency support, disaster response and recovery services across Greater Houston. Together, we are stronger.
Every second counts in an emergency. That's why our CenterPoint Safety teams regularly work alongside local first responders to demonstrate the hazards of electrical arcing, the importance of situational awareness and knowing the potential dangers of energized equipment.
Thank you to the firefighters at the Channelview Fire Station for helping strengthen awareness and preparedness through hands-on training!
