Me, going to my autism assessment: I’ve timetabled the entire day, walked through the journey in advance on Google Maps, worn my headphones the whole way, and practised greeting and making eye contact with the psychiatrist. What’s autistic about that? #ActuallyAutistic

A neurodivergent’s ability to read the room is half the reason we don’t like going to places

Especially around the two-minute mark!
Some autists are: sarcastic, social, great at reading others, selfless, playful, good communicators, empathetic, imaginative, quick-witted, bad at math, science and programming, fond of loud noises and bright lights, and many things others think none of us are. We are all unique.

The autistic introvert urge to sit at your workstation for hours - even though you desperately need the bathroom, are yearning for water and are aching all over - because you don’t want to run the risk of bumping into anyone and having to make eye contact, smile or talk to them.

Neurodivergent trauma = feeling like you’ve done something wrong after most social interactions. Analysis of what the feeling is for and whether it’s accurate is my usual post social processing.

The fact that even when autistic people have reached rock bottom or the end of their social battery, they still have that extra emergency supply of fake-smiling so other people don’t get upset by their ‘grumpy’ (unmasked) expression. It’s exhausting. #ActuallyAutistic
That strange apathy with which I stare at the unread messages on my phone, knowing full well I won’t answer them for another month. #ActuallyAutistic
Episode 6 of #HeartbreakHigh is so good for autistic representation! Quinni’s experience on the bus, having her schedule changed, her happiness at the book launch and her meltdown were so powerful to watch. Never seen my experiences portrayed like this before. #autistic

I absolutely love Quinnie. The restaurant scene, with all the noise and people talking and chewing, was so relatable. I hope it’ll show NTs how hard it can be for us!
I love the autism representation in @netflix’s Heartbreak High. @chloeshayden’s portrayal of Quinni is superb; My highlights are Quinni’s scenes in a restaurant, on a bus, at a party, enjoying her Special Interest and dating a non-autistic person - all of which I found relatable.

“Autistic people can’t feel empathy”. Me: *feels the physical, mental and emotional pain of other people, animals and objects deep within my soul, such that I feel like I am experiencing their plight alongside them and wish I could fix everything and take all of our pain away*.

This thread is beautiful and SO true.
I feel most proud to be autistic when… 🧵 1. I form a beautiful bond with an animal. I believe autism helps me to feel auras and connect with Earth’s creatures in ways that transcend traditional means of communication. It’s a beautiful thing.
2. I experience a rush of joy when a song leaves me appropriately stimulated and provides me with sensory heaven. I’m proud that I get to experience this, because so few people do.

Conversation things that I, as an autistic person, don’t understand. A 🧵:
1
6.When the person asking a question clearly has the answer they want, but the person who answers keeps hammering the point. Can’t they see they can stop? 6/7

7.When someone repeats the same point over and over. Yes, I got it the first time. 7/7 #ActuallyAutistic #AutismAwareness
