Must everything be maxxxx’ed? What if we allowed for a glorious middle ground?
I am addicted and I know that I am and I’m working to change that while also recognizing that I am choosing to continue to live and exist in the modern world - the only other conceivable option is to cut myself off and live as a monk
Cell phone addiction is an absolute thermonuke to the brain and nobody 'takes it seriously' because it is not clear that there is any solution in a world where the revealed preference of everyone across the globe, regardless of income, race, age, any factor whatsoever, would rather be on their phone than do *anything* else. Deciding "I use this too much" and meaningfully altering one's behaviour doesn't seem to have much success for any of the very small minority of people with the sentience or self-reflection to realize how bad it is. Most people seem to think of it as an unproductive habit at most, rather than an addiction. Any attempt to speak seriously about this is met with derision, accusations of pretentiousness. There is no real solution to it. The future of human cognition fifty years down the line is horrifying if you stop and think about it for even a moment.
You’re forgetting about payments king 👑
Ramp, Mercury, etc fighting on 10bps of margin to keep users is confirming the theme that pricing in fintech is a race to the bottom and credit is the only moat left.
What once used to be a high margin industry:
- high deposit yield
- high interchange revenue
- high FX margins
- even trading fees
is going to 0 because of revenue sharing, just to keep customers sticky in a commoditized product that has 0 loyalty.
While getting to $100M in revenue within a few years will increasingly be possible given TAM expansion, the net margin on that growth will be minimal, because of revenue shares.
This actually strengthens my thesis that the only moat left will be credit because you can’t just simply decrease the price of risk.
With rates going up, so will the price of credit.
Credit will be harder to come by and the ones that do well in fintech will have a credit offering as it’s the only product left where the margin is now increasing while every other payment or deposits (let’s call it transactional product’s margin) is significantly decreasing because of competition.
With credit it’s pure game theory where no one will drop the price of credit given the risk of losing it all.
Credit is fintech’s LAST moat.
Until SF can learn to apply simple and effective solutions to the handful of challenging problems we face, I don’t think we have a right to say we are one of the greatest cities in the world.
It may have been true at some point in the not too distant past, but today we have clearly lost the way and need to figure out how we can get back to a more inclusive, sustainable, safe and vibrant city that millions can call home

BART is the most efficient rail agency in the nation at providing service because they have moved most of their costs to fixed costs that do not vary with service levels
BART is mostly automated so operators are only 6.4% of their budget compared to police which are 8.5%
List of actually serious people in SF - everyone else is a clown 🤡

Why is it so hard to enforce against double parking in San Francisco?
I looked into it, and turns out, we have some outdated state laws hampering enforcement.
CA Vehicle Code 40240 does not allow automated enforcement by cameras for double parking, outside of traffic only lanes.
CA Vehicle Code 22502 requires a physical street sign to prohibit double parking in commercial delivery and passenger pickup zones.
Combined with the fact that officers have to physically put tickets on a car for it to be in violation, it leaves enforcement against double parking, extremely difficult.
Another case of outdated laws making life difficult in San Francisco.

I’m sure this one won’t make anyone angry. (But probably not here.)

The inability of the left to distinguish between an imperfect ally and an enemy is the height of privilege and will be our downfall
I asked chat about “play within a play” and it referred to the term “mise en abyme” which conceptually refers to when a work of art contains an embedded work of art that mirrors it, and literally translates to “placed into the abyss” and now I’m wondering if Digger applies here ?

Something the movie grapples with is that the modern status quo, where the rulers get everything they want but people can get stupid rich making fun of them, seems to be much more effective than just beheading dissidents. He said you’re in on the racket basically
Ok I think this kinda makes sense. The thing I was trying to piece together from the movie was the significance of the Hope plot
Unfortunately, I have convinced myself already that Digger was produced in a Big Brother universe, not ours.
I tried to put every continuity error/things I found interesting into the review of 12th rewatch of Digger…😂
