My Sifuna pitch is simple: let's for the first time in our history give the (most electable) person who actually believes in constitutionalism a chance

The Great Rift Valley is the single most consequential geological feature in Africa. The most densely populated regions of the continent are either the highlands of the Rift valley (Ethiopia and Great Lakes) or river valleys that arose from the Rift valley highlands (Nile).

Can we PLEASE normalize just hanging out at each otherβs houses again? Why does every friendship meetup need to be a whole production, a restaurant reservation, and a $150 bill? I just want to sit on your couch, drink something, and talk for hours.

My mind is blown by how far ahead Apple is with local LLMs. The new Mac Studio M5 Ultra will have a 512 GB model for around 15-20k. You can chain 6 of them together using thunderbolt 5 and this have over 3 TB of ram and a massive amount of CPU and GPU cores. This means you can run a frontier model with over 2 trillion parameters locally for around 100kish. Nivida is around 500k for the same capability.

Not only is Wi-Fi down since yesterday, even mobile internet quality seems to be lower. In some areas, mobile internet quality was poor for more than a week.

A good buddy of mine did his PhD on this and now works on WiFi spatial mapping at a big tech company and Itβs way more accurate than youβd imagine. You can map an entire college campus in real-time like Batman just with WiFi. Crazy stuff
breathing is enough to give you away
each breath slightly changes how Wi-Fi waves reflect off your chest. with the right receiver and processing, those tiny changes can reveal your breathing rhythm
the graphs in this animation use real WiRe-Breath recordings: orange is the rhythm extracted from Wi-Fi, gray is a reference breathing sensor
i broke down how this works, and what else you can pull out of the radio waves around you, in the article below β

The budget for education in 03/04 was 80b its now close to 800b it has grown ten fold yet the population of students has doubled.
This only means that the beneficiaries of the education budget are adults employed by the education department and not the true beneficiaries ie students
The trouble with socialism is that, sooner or later, you run out of other people's money
PS Chris Kiptoo: The government is struggling to raise enough revenue to meet the growing needs of Kenyans.

Meanwhile, in France. A pink cat, fire hoses, garbage, a flag, and road signs reading "Republic" and "Bastille." A beautiful shot.
