Hassan Sheikh Mohamud is losing yet another domestic conflict of his own making.
He has already suffered huge losses against Al-Shabaab, Jubaland, Puntland, and the South East State and now faces defeat in the South West State as well.
He has 0 wins on his record 😬

Ladies and gentlemen, this is an MP in Somalia THIS WEEK defending the mutilation of little girls because it benefits men.
I am running out of words for the sheer inhumanity of these men. And the female politician laughing behind him should be ashamed. But that would require a conscience.
Around 99% of Somali women and girls have undergone #FGM, yet politicians openly defend this horrific abuse.
And what do we do? Keep pouring billions into Somalia while pretending it is building a functioning state.
Why are British taxpayers funding institutions whose politicians show such contempt for little girls?
Not another penny without accountability. I am sick of this madness.

The US failure to recognize Somaliland and take advantage of its historical connection to Great Britain is inexplicable.
It has both ocean front property and 7000 foot mountains -- and no civil war.
It is a developed and prosperous nation, unlike the failed nation of Somalia.
Ilhan Omar exists BECAUSE we keep PRETENDING Somalia and Somaliland are the same country.
THEY’RE NOT.
Somaliland is sitting on the Bab el-Mandeb — 10-12% of global seaborne trade — and offering America the spare key.
Berbera port. Critical minerals. Taiwan ties. No Al-Shabaab since 2008.
Somalia is the failed state that keeps exporting Ilhan Omar and fraud rings.
SOMALILAND is the one that works.

Excellency Ambassador Herman J. Cohen, thank you sincerely for your steadfast support for Somaliland’s nationhood and for the profound wisdom and conviction reflected in your words in support of our nation and its people.
The people of the Republic of Somaliland do not forget those who stand with them, speak for them, or honour their national aspirations. We hold in the highest regard those who extend us their support, affirm our dignity, and acknowledge our rightful place among the nations of the world.
Once again, thank you Mr. Ambassador 🙏
Hundreds gathered in Somaliland's capital, Hargeisa, waving American and Somaliland flags after President Trump described Somaliland as "a totally different country" from Somalia. I welcome his acknowledgment of Somaliland's distinct identity. Since restoring its independence in 1991, Somaliland has built democratic institutions, held competitive elections, and demonstrated its commitment to democracy through peaceful transfers of power, most recently in 2024. The United States should now take the next step and formally recognize Somaliland as an independent nation.

👉🏾Who earns American Partnership, Somaliland or Somalia?
👉🏾How and in what ways is Somaliland different from Somalia?
After delivering the distinction, not only by pointing at the flag but also by highlighting Somaliland’s achievements, he loudly read this part and then asked the question right after:
"Somaliland National Army receives zero support, aid, or contributions from any foreign government, while maintaining zero piracy, terrorism, or instability, demonstrating a strong commitment to USA partnerships and remaining free from China’s influence."
I was very happy he read this part loudly and then asked the right question:
- Who earns American Partnership, Somaliland or Somalia?
Here is everything the USA would like and want to see in Somaliland and ny partner country in strategic location :
No piracy.
No terrorists.
No aid or external support.
Strong commitment to USA
No China influence.
Meanwhile, Somalia, despite the billions the USA has kept pouring into it, is still struggling with all these issues.
As President Trump said, they are totally two different countries.

“I call it Somalia Land, not Somaliland, because actually, it’s a totally different country.” — @realDonaldTrump @POTUS
This is why, and one of the reasons:
Somaliland National Army vs. Somalia National Army
Somaliland National Army celebrating the Somaliland–USA relationship and thanking Trump for his distinguished remarks about Somaliland.
Somalia National Army stepping on the USA flag publicly during an official national mobilisation, protesting Israel’s recognition of Somaliland.
Somaliland National Army receives zero support, aid, or contributions from any foreign government, while maintaining zero piracy, terrorism, or instability, demonstrating a strong commitment to USA partnerships and remaining free from China’s influence.
Somalia National Army massively depends on USA aid and support, yet has failed to defeat terrorism, combat piracy, and maintain internal stability, while showing animosity towards the USA due to China’s influence.
Definitely, two totally different countries.

Trump just called Somaliland a “totally different country” from Somalia and suggested renaming it to make the distinction clear.
For 35 years Somaliland has run its own government, army, and elections while Somalia has remained a failed state drawing heavy U.S. aid.
One side has celebrated the American flag in its streets. The other has been filmed stomping it.
Crowds in Hargeisa immediately waved both flags after Trump’s remarks.
The facts haven’t changed, only the question of how long American tax dollars keep treating the two as the same.

I am convinced the opposite is true: Ethiopia stands to gain enormous strategic, economic, and security benefits by recognising Somaliland, with zero security threat. What Mogadishu is doing to Ethiopia is far more damaging, as it increasingly aligns itself with Ethiopia’s rivals and provides them with a platform to advance their interests against Ethiopia.
The moment Ethiopia recognises Somaliland, it will strengthen ethiopia’s regional influence, project strategic power, and gain a reliable partner in the Horn of Africa; we must face reality: Somaliland’s people and government have prevented Al-Shabaab and piracy from establishing the safe havens they exploit elsewhere, demonstrating decades of resilience, effective local governance, and a sustained commitment to regional security that make Somaliland a strategic asset, not a security liability.
In anyway, the African forces cannot be expected to remain in Somalia indefinitely, we must look beyond the present security arrangements and plan for the eventuality of their withdrawal.
Ethiopia’s recognition of Somaliland would strengthen its security, accelerate economic growth, and enhance its capacity to project power and expand its strategic influence across the Horn of Africa and the wider Red Sea region.

The Ethiopian ambassador has just echoed one of Somalia’s strategies: bargaining with the world against Somaliland, a narrative that seems to be falling apart.
It appears Ethiopia is echoing Muqdisho’s narrative of using Al-Shabaab’s existence as a bargaining chip in the region.
The argument is that recognising Somaliland would empower Al-Shabaab and break the fragile stability inside Somalia.
What should Ethiopia be more worried about internal eruptions, its northern frontier, or Al-Shabaab inside Somalia?
The Somalian president Hassan has repeated this claim multiple times in interviews, both during the 2024 MoU crisis and following Israel’s recognition in 2025.
Everyone else rejected these claims. The idea itself has been debunked by reality, exposing how poorly informed the world was about the situation.
It would be very unfortunate if Ethiopia fell for the same narrative.
- On 14 August 2025, Ted Cruz @SenTedCruz @tedcruz pushed Somaliland’s recognition to the highest level, sending a letter to Donald Trump @POTUS @realDonaldTrump urging him to recognise Somaliland.
- The very next day, on 15 August, Somalia’s ambassador to the US used the same bargaining tactic, warning that any move against Somalian unity could allow Al-Shabaab to take over.
- On 26 December 2025, Somaliland received its first recognition from Israel.
So, did Al-Shabaab get enough of a boost to take over Muqdisho or attack Somaliland?
Ironically, Israel’s @gidonsaar response to these claims was that refusing to recognise Somaliland could allow terrorism to expand.
Ethiopia @AbiyAhmedAli is failing to read the room, and that is precisely what has brought it to where it is today.
For Somaliland, recognition may once have seemed like a gamble that could cost it land. But the stakes are no longer the same. In fact, Somaliland has become an increasingly important strategic outlet for Ethiopia, particularly for trade and access to the sea when every where else is blocked.
