Yesterday, CFU Executive Director @RushanAbbas delivered a presentation at @Stanford, hosted by the @abbasiprogram and @StanfordHumRts, and joined Glenn Tiffert of the Hoover Institution for a conversation on how surveillance systems, data extraction, and coercive labor programs drive the CCPโs repression of Uyghurs and shape global supply chains. Students, faculty, and community members gathered to engage with these urgent issues and reflect on the wider human rights and accountability challenges they raise.

In this audiovisual talk, ๐๐ฟ. ๐ฅ๐ฎ๐บ๐๐ถ ๐ฆ๐ฎ๐น๐๐ถ explores how Lebanonโs tumultuous history relates to the enduring musical legacy of Fairuz. Salti examines pivotal junctures in Lebanonโs past and present, using Fairuzโs music as a lens to explore the countryโs shifting political, social, and cultural landscapes. Through an incisive analysis of Fairuz's songsโresonating with the Lebanese people during moments of joy, hardship, and national identity formationโSalti traces how her music both mirrors and influences the nationโs spirit.
๐๐ฟ. ๐ฅ๐ฎ๐บ๐๐ถ ๐ฆ๐ฎ๐น๐๐ถ is an Advanced Lecturer for the Arabic Program, SLC, at Stanford University. He has organized and emceed various events on Arabic cultural productions, postcolonial theory, and Pop Culture, and hosts a popular podcast titled 'Arabology.'

Using a case study from Turkey, but also engaging with various examples from the Global South and North, she argues that policing is not merely a project of pacification but also a strategy of provocation and a permanent war on politics.
๐๐ฒ๐ป๐ถ๐ ๐ฌ๐ผ๐ป๐๐ฐ๐ received her Ph.D. in Social Anthropology from Cornell University and is an Associate Professor at Newcastle University's School of Geography, Politics, and Sociology.
