Correct. That said, if you wanted to open a PR updating 5.2 to 5.3, I would bet that other contributors would be interested in trying out the branch and testing it, too.

Not yet. Bootstrap 5.3 is still in alpha so we probably won't see it coming into Understrap until it's actually production-ready.
Once we do one more quick release for the parent theme, we'll push all updates on the child theme. In the meantime, you can update bootstrap via npm, then run the `copy-assets` and `dist` commands to refresh all the assets.
Understrap 1.2 is out! Major updates include Bootstrap 5.2, better PHP linting support, removed jQuery dependency, better WPML/Polylang support, and more. Read the full release post for more.
