This is not a new idea. I saw presentations on issuance reform as early as Devcon Bangkok and again this year in Cannes. The problems of unbounded stake growth and dilution have been known for years. IMHO (as a home staker and supporter of Ethereum), EIP-8361 is a minimal, market-driven response. Regardless of your position, I encourage everyone to engage seriously with the reasons and justifications behind this proposal rather than reacting viscerally and attacking the contributors for raising a difficult but important subject.
🚨 New EIP: Tapered Issuance Burn We just submitted an EIP to ethereum/EIPs: a minimal, market-driven fix to Ethereum's issuance policy removing the incentive for stake growth beyond 50% of ETH supply. EIP-8361 by @pintail_xyz, @jdetychey, @dapplion, @pa7x1, @ladislaus0x & @drakefjustin 🧵

I want to be clear and I won't mince words. This pisses me off, a lot. I don't care in any way shape or form if you think I'm being overly dramatic, I truly don't. If anything - you aren't mad enough. POAP is hands down a top 3 dapp/protocol and has been for years. We are losing an absolutely incredible thing here - and it's our fault. Rise Up has been using POAPs since 2021 for all sorts of things - community events, episode milestones, games, treasure hunts, and more. Knowing I won't be able to use it for our 600th episode, or 1000th, or anything else is absolutely maddening. Can you imagine for a second, if we elevated and paid attention to something like @poapxyz the same way this space has the Ansem meme? Even 10% of the attention? Every time something like this - a free to use, simple, and accessible tool for new user onboarding - goes away, it feels like we lose another piece of what brought many of us here in the first place. I personally used POAP to onboard dozens and dozens of people who had never made a wallet, minted an NFT, sent a transaction, or looked at onchain data. The process was SO easy, and just like that a brand new user got to enter this space with a great experience and immediate induction into a phenomenal community. My conviction to fight the erosion of our core ethos is stronger for staring down the barrel of losing a platform like this - and I hope everyone takes this as the warning sign that it is. I have seen this industry rally together when terrible things happen. The unity I saw in the wake of the Kelp DAO bridge exploit was so inspiring - I hoped it would catalyse a broader push to take our industry back. Yet here we are - letting another amazing piece of the space fade, all while pretending that Congress and Blackrock have our best interests at heart. Maybe it was just about greed the entire time. The fight goes on, there is so much work to be done. Don't let this canary go unnoticed. – at Port Wentworth, GA
After 5+ years, we're winding down POAP. Over the years, we: * minted millions of collectibles across hundreds of communities. * did incredible collaborations with world-class organizations - Coinbase, Amex, WMG, Bayer, and a long tail of others, including countless in crypto. * ran one of the biggest activations at Devcon, minting 8000+ collectibles over the course of a week. * built an Airport Rally to let collectors get POAPs at airports around the world. POAP meant something to a lot of people. Unfortunately, crypto's funding cycles and distribution dynamics made it hard to build a sustainable company without cannibalizing the ethos that made POAP mean something. Building on a fragile and quickly evolving stack, in the middle of an incredible hype cycle, only added to the challenges. Still, there are some big lessons I am carrying from the POAP story. First: Customer communities are the most undervalued asset a company can have. If you build something with soul, people who use it and love it will take your brand everywhere. Do not underestimate the power of customer communities. Second: Connection is still the point. It's easy to lose that thread when the conversation is about the latest bubbly tech or price speculation, but the people using POAPs at events, in classrooms, at hackathons were getting something real out of it. Third: Longevity and brand equity are the only moats left. With the time to building and shipping something new collapsing quickly, and distribution becoming increasingly an engineering problem, customers increasingly want to make sure they can trust that the things they are buying will grow and evolve with the market, without changing radically. Grateful for everyone who believed in what we were building. It's too soon for me to say what's next, but for now, I'm thinking a lot about what GTM looks like in the age of AI.

A stunning piece of engineering!! 1X unveils the new humanoid hand for NEO - 25 degrees of freedom: 22 fully actuated in the fingers and palm, plus 3 at the wrist. - The DoF are distributed anatomically rather than evenly, deliberately biased toward a thumb that genuinely opposes the fingers. - In-house tendon-driven, quasi-direct-drive running low gear ratios of ~5:1 to 15:1 vs the typical 100:1–200:1. - Motors live in the forearm and pull tendons through the wrist. This keeps the hand light and its inertia low while producing high forces. Sensing - All 25 DoF are natively force-controlled and fully backdrivable. Every joint doubles as a force sensor. - Very important, closed-loop proprioception: it always knows its own pose and effort without looking. - Tactile skin across the fingertips and surfaces measuring contact and shear. This helps with adaptive gripping in real time. Safety and durability - IP68 waterproof and food-safe, so it can wash its own hands. - Compliant by construction: the low gear ratios, tendon drive, and low distal inertia let external impacts safely backdrive the fingers. It yields when hit by a hammer or caught in a drawer. - Full finger assemblies validated to millions of cycles. Manufacturing - Deep vertical integration: in-house motors, custom electronics, and tendon systems. - Hundreds built already, with capacity to produce 10,000 hands this year. Why did @ether_fi commit 5k ETH to the Kelp hack recovery fund? Because we believe there was a very real risk that this could have killed DeFi. The default path was: Kelp bankruptcy -> $1.5B of rsETH tied up for years -> $30B Aave lending market locked up -> Cascade of DeFi and CeFi implosions. Game over for crypto. FTX would have looked small in comparison. In the face of these systemic risks we saw almost everyone pull back and hide behind lawyers. The worst case scenario was playing out. The one team that stood out and stepped up was Aave. In many ways they were the least to blame (and there was plenty of blame to go around) but they took ownership and immediately began raising funds to fill the hole left by the hack. If the @ether_fi team helped in some small way, it was mainly to open up communication help others see the gravity of the situation. There’s a lot more to be written about what happened, and things are still playing out. But I think the worst case scenario has been averted. Lots of soul searching to be done about systemic risks and decentralization theatre by everyone. We’ll do a longer write up in a few weeks.

the eth core devs don’t tweet a lot about just how hard the work that they do is so let’s talk about it: 1. every line of code they merge can move more money than most banks process in a quarter. there is no staging server for that. 2. they swap consensus logic for a 400B + dollar economy without scheduling downtime. ever. 3. they coordinate hundreds of researchers, auditors, and client teams across time zones, cultures, and philosophies, yet ship like a single mind. 4. they do it all in public, with every decision dissected by the loudest peanut gallery on the internet, and still keep the vibe collaborative. 5. they design for attackers who have nine figure incentives and infinite patience. then they sleep anyway. 6. they keep six independent clients in perfect sync so the same block lives at the same height for every node in the world. 7. they turn bleeding edge research into production code while preserving backwards compatibility for machines that went online before defi even had a name. 8. they debug issues that only happen once a year on a single archive node because someone somewhere will rely on that edge case. 9. they write cryptography that must stay unbroken for decades while the math itself evolves beneath their feet. 10.when the upgrade lands smooth the outside world shrugs. inside ethereum we know it was a minor miracle. every successful fork proves that decentralized coordination can outperform the world’s best hierarchies and shows that open internet capital markets are now the default. thank you, truly. we owe you everything.

tagging @ncsgy @Ledger @Trezor for visibility here, since this mostly concerns hardware wallets dApps should absolutely NOT have access to this, but wallet extensions need to communicate the request to hardware wallets
