able bodied people will never understand the constant rationing of energy to survive. Every bit of movement and energy is calculated and has consequences; insluding the types of food I eat, the meds I take, and even the emotions I feel--

I wish I had learnt about pacing earlier in my health journey.
I used to push through my pain & fatigue.
It was really hard for me to accept that resting did not mean I was weak or that I wasn’t trying hard enough. I felt like a failure, to be honest.
But now I really understand what pacing with EDS is and what it is not. I was able to implement strategies that I needed to find a sustainable rhythm to manage energy and avoid the boom and bust I used to experience regularly.

As a physician, I’m just not so sure our brains were made to stream this much grief and tragedy day in, day out, while not being able to do anything to stop the hurt/suffering.

Don’t beg. They knew you were breaking and still chose silence.
Don’t forget ,they watched you struggle and did nothing.

I absolutely HATE the idea of ‘well someone else has it worse’ like NO.
Your pain and trauma are completely valid despite what someone else went through..

Until you’ve written a suicide note with despair in your heart, tears in your eyes, and pain in your soul so horrendous that it makes you believe death is the only solution for peace, don’t tell me that it’s cowardly, selfish, or an attempt for attention.

Things my mental illness sometimes stops me doing..
• picking up the phone
• leaving the house
• eating healthy
• exercising
• laughing
• doing my hair or makeup
• getting dressed
Sometimes being able to do one of these things is a victory.

“You’re depressed because you’re in bed all day. Getting up and doing something will make you feel better”
No, I’m depressed because I’m sick and CANNOT get up and live life as a healthy person. Doing things would make me happier. The point is that my body will not allow it.

There are people who will deny your story because it requires them to be honest about their role in the ways you’ve been hurt. These are not your people.
