I could never convey the feeling of this discovery: itβs a random Tuesday and, all of a sudden, we saw a branching, treelike structure.
Moreover, itβs my own brain. A brain was looking at itself, while also knowing that it was the first time anyone in the world had seen this kind of brain image; this was divine poetry
We used ultrasound for silent speech!
This was so fun to test. Seeing your own words appear on screen is a moment of magic
We used ultrasound to let you talk without making any sound.
After just a month of collecting data, our model is already approaching existing silent speech modalities. We were surprised to find that it generalizes to unseen participants as well!

then we started pushing it
turned the scan data into custom velocity fields and ran VFX sims through them
here is a particle sim that made the brain feel like a tree growing
A challenge I never thought I'd have:
Most of our renders of the brain were too beautiful to be used, and would make people think it was fake

Me too!
We actually shared our images with an endovascular neurosurgeon at UCSF and he was in disbelief.
After we got over that, he told me how exciting this would be for all the different applications in stroke localization and vascular assessment.

This is one of the nicest things anyone has said about us. And the pictures are so tender β seeing our team through your eyes

4 years ago we reoriented our entire lives around a question: how do you make telepathy real?
Yesterday we shared the most detailed scan of the living human brain.
Here is the story of how we got here (1/n)
This pursuit has been difficult, damned, thrilling, exhilarating, all of the above. It has been responsible for the most divine moment of my life (below) as well as years of uncertainty.
If this sounds interesting to you, we'd love to hear from you :)

Our work is so unusual and the problem space is so vast that it required Aleph being raised by a community. Thank you so much for everyone who supported us:
