Been a busy three months since graduating – mostly spent teaching Claude to use a liquid handling robot, a balance, and an X-ray diffractometer. Having a lot of fun working with this team and excited to share what we’ve been doing

you can prompt this entire facility
one model controls everything: equipment, researchers, and inventory
I spent two weeks living inside it, working on C5R's launch with Astra – here's what it felt like:

After years in pure software, advances in coding agents made me want to revisit my PhD work in AI x Science and see what was now possible with the latest models.
Turns out, many of my friends were thinking the same thing.
C5R is the result :)

Been working on this. we've got frontier models controlling a research facility plus we can benchmark their abilities (at bio, chem, materials). Models have been making big steps in code, maths, etc, but not yet in the lab. this is how we can change that.
There are 158 devices in the facility
Each is reverse engineered & integrated
Liquid handlers, robots, sequencers… even each light
The building is a massive programmable robot

> be me
> @akilian says ai obvs going to do big science
> ok then it will need a lab right
> actually it will need REALLY big labs
> they don’t exist
> ok we will build it

six months ago, we started C5R to build physical spaces where models can do R&D. in twelve weeks, we had our first facility up. since then, we've brought together an incredible team of friends and former colleagues.
a lot of people helped make this happen. thank you.
18 months ago, I went all in on studying biology. I started by building a lab in my apartment (worms!) and later joined one at UCSF.
Meanwhile, models were making advances in the virtual world, but in the lab — they fell short.
We started C5R to fix this. See more below!

I wrote an essay about why the next frontier for AI is the world outside the data center
Nature is a system more complex than anything we've ever created
AI can learn how the system fits together, so we can finally understand how to shape it
How?

Today, we are announcing our Series A and a new product: @raindrop_ai Simulations.
We've now raised $50m from @CRV and @lightspeedvp to protect the world from agent failures, big and small.

Introducing @indent, one coworker for your whole company
Indent is a single agent that is built to work with every member of your team, simultaneously. Instead of every one setting up their own agents, use Indent to build one together.

0/ Today @FuseEnergyTech announced FAETON-X hit 1.27×10¹² neutrons in a single shot — the highest yield ever reported by a commercial fusion company, and in a range previously seen only at national labs.
Proud to be pushing the frontier alongside the US national lab community. 🧵 0/4

announcing @ambrook's $30M series B, led by lachy groom. instead of a fundraising video, we typed up a letter - if you're curious, give us your address (link in thread) and we'll send you some snail mail.
like our customers already know, some good things take time.

We weren’t happy with the existing drug pipeline and catalyst databases, so we built a new one designed to be easy for both humans and LLMs to use.
We’re making it freely available today as a community resource. The sign-up link and blog post are in the thread below.

We used ultrasound to let you talk without making any sound.
After just a month of collecting data, our model is already approaching existing silent speech modalities. We were surprised to find that it generalizes to unseen participants as well!
