Screenshot of my old @runwayml ML Lab custom image training feels like a different era, everything works so differently now.
Working with my homie to make a portrait generator with character consistency was a huge achievement in early 2023, but now in late 2026 it feels like the standard.
Looking back, I was so early in my GAN education I thought I was actually training the AttnGAN model, but I was using the COCO-pretrained weights, and the model was frozen. I was playing inside the Runway experiment UI.
Hand steered, not hand trained. It wasn't until Feb 2023 that I trained a custom image generator using AI training in @runwayml's old ML Lab.

Feeling nostalgic. If you're wondering how I made this back in 2021. I used AttnGAN, and coded a really simple UI for input and output on localhost. I also experimented with the @runwayml hosted experiment.

Today marks my final day at Cool Cats.
I’ve been drawing Blue Cat since 2013, starting as a doodle, to The Catoonist, to Cool Cats: a digital art collection, a Macy’s Parade balloon, and an animated series. Since I was little, all I ever wanted was to create a character of my own. Blue Cat is how that dream came true.
The Board has decided to take Cool Cats in a new direction, one that no longer includes me. I respect their decision, and I’ll always want the best for Blue Cat.
The closest thing I can compare this feeling to is raising a kid and watching them leave for college. I gave him everything I had over these 13 years, and now it’s time to wish him well.
Thank you to everyone who believed in me, to every employee who poured their heart into this, and to the fans who stood by me through every high and low.
I’m sad to move on, but excited for whatever I create next.
