I thought I was crazy but in fact Godot 4 was much slower, less responsive than 3.
As suggested below, setting Editor Settings -> Interface -> Editor -> Single Window Mode to ON solved it

@Kickstarter Urgent help needed! "Memori" isn't showing up in your search results, even with the exact title. Some users have noted having to load the next page before our project even shows up.
