I recently had a discussion with the founder of @_forgeprotocol, where I asked questions around how yield is generated from depositing SOL for cSOL (your share of the vault), and how market volatility impacts returns. Here’s a concise breakdown of what I found: @_forgeprotocol is building a system where users can earn returns by depositing SOL and receiving cSOL, which represents their proportional share of the vault. The core mechanism relies on arbitrage activity. Bots continuously search for price inefficiencies in the market, profit from them, and in the process, contribute value back into the system. In simple terms, returns are driven by market volatility and trading activity not by protocol emissions or incentives. This means users are earning from real market behavior, rather than being rewarded for participation alone. A key question I had was: what happens during periods of low volatility? In such conditions, returns may decrease due to fewer opportunities for arbitrage. However, this does not reduce the value of your initial deposit, it only affects the rate of return (APY).
