It's horrible to see a distinguished salt-and-pepper type man in brogues play freemium mobile games on the train. Shouldn't you be reading a John Updike novel? Why do they even print them anymore if you won't?

Isn't is strange that an image of something so simple cuts so deep?

In series 1 of Bullseye, on the prize board, Jim would announce a funny ‘bad’ prize if it went in the wrong segment - “You’ve won DIY brain surgery” or “A trip to resurface the M6”. But nothing can prepare you for this gem #itwasadifferenttime

Instead of paying to attend a songwriting workshop, just rifle through a few dollar bins until you find this. Side 1 alone will provide you with a lifetime’s worth of lessons on songwriting and arrangement

What a dynamic duo. Lindsay Anderson and Malcolm McDowell. Arguably one of the most anarchic film trilogies ever. Bleak, hopeless and brilliant. I saw the poster for If.... outside a newsagents shop in Manchester and was intrigued. Cinema was becoming my obsession.

Fucking hell fire. Turn on this 24/7 corrie thing for the first time and it’s the 1979 episode where Gail turns 21, gets engaged, Elsie finds out and Audrey appears for the first time. This could be the end of other channels for me.

It’s actually crazy how you grow up thinking home-cooked meals every day are just normal, then get older and realise how much time and effort it took your Mom to make that happen and how lucky you were to have that.

John Minton was a gifted draughtsman and graphic artist but he is possibly best known today for his lean and angular face, familiar from his doleful self portraits and from Freud’s great likeness of his friend, the glassy eyes filled with sorrow and shifting reflections.

Distinctly remember going and buying a single carrot from Castle Market on the last day, just to buy something. Loved that building.

One way to instantly feel better about life is to watch old episodes of Bullseye with Jim Bowen. I showed my 14 year old boy, he couldn't stop laughing- especially at Bullys prize board. I had the explain that crystal drcanters, a hover mower and a radio alarm clock plus 55 quid each really did feel like winning the lottery in 80s UK

In the 90s, we didn't have Celebrity Traitors. Instead we watched proper people loafing about, talking about music, getting pissed and smoking fags, all polished up and comfied by the BBC's lovely Jo Whiley. Nobody moaned about paying the TV licence back then.
The full, Ian Brown Ian McCulloch & Cerys Matthews with Jo Whiley’s music pure gold. A snapshot of an era when British music was loud, fearless and full of character. Madchester past, present, future still relevant, still shaping, still leading.

absolutely obsessed with this 1981 belgian synth-pop song. the identity of its singer, carol, remains a mystery. she completely vanished from the music scene after releasing this and there’s nothing known about her at all. her voice reminds me of grimes, it’s mesmerizing.

German singer Nico, Andy Warhol’s muse, was born on this day 1938. She came to live in Manchester in 1981. ‘It reminds me of Berlin after the war. Everything was broken and falling down.' She loved the architecture and cheap heroin.

Is it just me or is being in your 40s mainly just buying stuff from your childhood from Vinted? My latest purchase? A bundle of Match magazines from 1996-98. Money well spent.

Pete Shelley (Buzzcocks) - "Homosapien". (1981). Buzzcocks (Pete Shelley): Shelley was bisexual. The band’s songs (including "Ever Fallen in Love (With Someone You Shouldn’t’ve)" and "Orgasm Addict") avoided gendered pronouns and had a pansexual dimension. As a solo artist...
