I know there's barely any hope rn mainly because of capitalism and the nonsensical turn social media has taken (esp re commercialisation of attention) but at some point in marketing, comms, etc, we're going to have to seriously look at the "all press is good press" wagwes
from a brand voice and creative standpoint, it’s a clunky, low-effort trend-jack. but from an attention and salience standpoint, it did exactly what it set out to do: dominate the timeline.
the detail most marketing critics are missing here is brand equity. A messy skit will not dent CJ’s footfall because their core value proposition isn't cultural commentary - it is operational consistency, massive portions and dependable service.
when a household brand with strong equity does something borderline absurd, it doesn't kill them; it simply buys them top-of-mind recall at zero media spend.
you can hate the execution and still acknowledge the commercial utility: outrage is still free distribution.
