Voice is the next great interface shift.
We're partnering with @brendaniribe, @natemitchell, @_apkumar, @2rhb & the @Sesame team to bring computers to life, not just as tools, but as thought partners.

We asked @kirstenagreen what she's most excited about in AI.
"Voice. The amount of information people share over voice compared to typing is tenfold."
"We are just in the early stages. @sesame is very exciting."

We're excited to be getting all the great feedback. Some of you may have noticed that Maya and Miles have been getting busy these past few hours. Rest assured, we're working to help them answer more calls!

So, "overlooked for 8+ years" turned out to be not quite right, it has been implemented in Google's Flaxformer library for at least 2 years
Now the question is why it didn't catch on. If it had no significant effect on performance, this idea is still worth revisiting for the purpose of facilitating quantization of large models with minimal performance impact
The fact that 97% of outlier activation LLMs occur in whitespace and punctuation positions does, indeed, hint at the ability of "attending to nothing" in order to get rid of outlier weights being potentially valuable
Flaxformer implementation of "softmax with extra logit", which is exactly the same as the one suggested by Evan: github.com/google/flaxformer…
I hit a bug in the Attention formula that’s been overlooked for 8+ years. All Transformer models (GPT, LLaMA, etc) are affected.
Researchers isolated the bug last month – but they missed a simple solution…
Why LLM designers should stop using Softmax 👇

If you wait for another two weeks, we have something nice for you ;) With the right methods you can fine-tune a 30B model on that GPU. A 30B policy with 30B value function also works for RLHF.
