I'll die on this hill. Sports are about crowning a true champion. Playoff systems that exist in American pro sports are dumb. You play a long grueling season and if you're slightly above average you get to play in a new long grueling post season that is virtually unrelated to the regular season and the team that gets hot wins. March Madness early rounds are my favorite week of the year, but that doesn't mean it's a fair or meaningful way to choose a champion. European domestic soccer leagues crown a true champion. No playoffs. 1st place wins. Is that good for business? No. But its a true unquestioned champion. The BCS was the next best thing. The 4 team playoff still worked. Out of 138 teams you can find 4 elite teams and because they haven't played similar schedules it makes sense that you may not be able to prove who was the best 1 or 2 based on body of work. At 12 you started to lose me. Yes I'm aware that means Miami wouldn't have even be in the conversation last year if it were still a 4 team playoff. 24 teams is the end of the CFB regular season as we know it. Will it still be fine? Yes. Will it be even more satisfying to see your rival not even be able to make a 24-team playoff? Yes. But the magic will be gone. 9-3 will be the goal. Key players will sit out game 12 to rest for the playoffs, allowing a bubble team an easy win to get in. At least then maybe we can get some conference collusion conspiracy arguments. Teams that may have been dynasties in the past could have Buffalo Bills-type runs where they just can't get it done in the playoffs. In the end, I'd rather see a potentially deserving team left out, than an 8-4 team that shouldn't sniff the playoffs get hot and make a run. I'm not going anywhere, I'll still probably watch just as much, and I'm sure the playoff will be entertaining. But we'll lose so much urgency, joy and heartbreak in the cheapening of the regular season.

I don’t mind changing clocks twice a year. It’s a very minor inconvenience to avoid either a 9 o’clock sunrise in December or a 4 o’clock sunrise in June

Since the start of the 2025 season… Missouri and Tennessee have NOT beaten an FBS team that either ended last year with a winning record or is currently above .500. That’s 34 possible games in that span.

The succubus right is exhausting, sucking all the joy out of life. Don't go see Nolan, "it's woke." Don't watch sports. "It's woke." Don't do this. Don't shop there. It's like the Left — draining the joy from life in the name of some weird purity.

Permanent DST is stupid because in the winter we get 9 AM sunrises. Permanent Standard is stupid because in the summer we get 4:45 AM sunrises (and lose an hour of sun in the evening during the nicest time of the year). The best solution is what we do if we'd stop being babies.
BREAKING: House votes 308-117 to make daylight saving time permanent, sending the bill to the Senate.

What we believe is pretty clear isn't more important than the results of the game. Sportsbooks cash every week because people are wrong about what they think. I think Notre Dame would beat Miami tomorrow. I do. I'm also 20 games below .500 picking games this year. Who gives a shit what we think or what is "pretty clear."

Same fans who celebrated Diaz and Golden will celebrate this but it's a bad hire.
Mario Cristobal will be the next head coach at the University of Miami, a process I’m told began mid November when conversation about a Manny Diaz buyout began and contingent of UM boosters reached out to Cristobal about coming home to South Florida.

Current top 25 is a ludicrous metric. Miami has wins over Nos. 26 and 28 and didn’t get housed by a 6-6 team.
CFP chair Warde Manuel on ESPN on why Alabama had edge over Miami: "What it really came down to is Alabama is 3-1 against current top 25 teams. Miami is 0-1"

“We chose not to rank 9-3 Duke, but have Missouri, who has been absolutely run out of a stadium twice by 30+ points, at #19 for some reason, so we can say Miami has no ranked wins and Alabama gets one for free.”
.@CFBPlayoff selection committee chair Warde Manuel on why Alabama over Miami: "It really came down to Alabama 3-1 vs. current top 25 teams, Miami was 0-1. Alabama 6-1 vs. teams over .500, Miami 4-2"

As a lifelong Alabama fan this nonsense is starting to blow my mind. Yes, the SEC is 99% still the best conference from top to bottom. But to imply you’re so unbelievably far ahead of everyone else by constantly using hypotheticals to justify why all your teams have multiple losses is just delusional. Why did Vanderbilt beat Alabama when Vanderbilt lost to the 15th place team in the Sun Belt? Why did Tennessee lose to Arkansas when Arkansas lost to arguably the worst team in the Big 12? Why did Ole Miss lose to Florida when Florida got obliterated by ACC Miami? Maybe, just maybe NIL actually changed the game. Maybe, just maybe anyone can beat anyone on any given weekend. No, you don’t deserve 6 out of 12 playoffs spots during a down year just because your biased opinion has you believing your team would win a different conference in an alternate universe… I mean if Vanderbilt can lose to 15th place Georgia State & beat Alabama + take Missouri, #1 SEC Texas & LSU down to the wire…how can you justifiably claim your conference is so good that you’d run the table in the other power 4 conferences? Because of your opinion? Delusion This doesn’t mean you aren’t the best conference, btw. You just aren’t as good as you think.
Lane Kiffin takes a shot at the ACC and Big 12 over College Football Playoff rankings👀 “It’s ridiculous, the difference of playing in the SEC and the ACC and Big 12… To think that you’re looking at schools and you’re talking about, like, Clemson’s schedule and who they played over Alabama. It’s stupid. I’m not gonna name them. Take some of those teams that are up there that haven’t played anybody and put them down in the SEC, they’re .500 teams.” on3.com/news/lane-kiffin-tak…

If NFL ignored who deserved to make playoffs & subjectively picked best team, then I guess Bills, even if finish out of playoffs, would make the playoffs over Cleveland or whoever ends up 7th seed. "Travesty to the sport," as Booger McFarland said about FSU exclusion after 13-0.

The funniest part of the argument for expansion is, "Who cares, it's more fun football!" Yeah, we already have that. They're called "bowl games" and they're awesome. Let the championship worthy teams play for a championship. And everyone else keep doing what they're doing

Congratulations to the people who run college football to restructuring a sport that had drama every week into one that has drama for a month
Sources: The CFP Board of Managers has decided on a 12-team College Football Playoff during today's meeting.

Last years playoff wouldve produced: * MSU-OSU matchup after OSU already beat them by 49 * Bama-Ole Miss matchup after Bama already beat them by 21 * ND-Cincinnati game after Cincy beat them in South Bend But yes, expansion will make the regular season and post-season better 🤦‍♂️
