Mo Syed is the editor behind KSI’s Try Not To Laugh videos and views from his edits have reached nearly a BILLION! 🤯
Here’s a few techniques he uses for KSI’s content:
😆 Keeping reactions QUICK, the edits have a really fast pace to keep their younger audience engaged throughout
🔍 He knows what the viewer is watching FOR, and keeps the focus on that; KSI, the funny clips he’s reacting to & the money he gives away
🎨 Altering the COLOUR grade: he lowers the saturation to emphasise emotion, often sad or humourless moments
🫨 Adding ZOOMS and SHAKES to keep viewers locked in on the content and increase that all important engagement

Editing a YouTube video can take on a thousand different forms, but is there a recipe for a PERFECT video? A step by step tutorial that will take your videos to the next level? Say no more - I’ve put together exactly how to edit a YouTube video from START to FINISH to get to those golden levels of audience retention 📈
📖 THE MIDDLE 📖
In the middle of the video, you need to deliver on your title and thumbnail and start giving your viewers minor payoffs to stop them skipping straight to the end.
The main way all big YouTubers achieve this is through STORY. There are hundreds of different storytelling techniques that you could use, one of the basics being setup, conflict and resolution. Just remember to always keep a curiosity gap open to keep viewers engaged all the way through.
Every well performing video has CHARACTER. Showing personality is so important to build a connection with your audience so that they come back because they want to spend more time with you.
Having good PACING throughout your video will aid the clarity of your storytelling and keep your viewers engaged, cut out any fluff and learn to murder your darlings!
👋 THE END 👋
This is where you must end your main storyline and give the viewer the biggest PAYOFFS to leave them feeling satisfied and uplifted, hopefully this should entice them to subscribe and watch more content. Guiding them to another relevant video can also help.
Then keep the outro nice a short, once they’ve got what they came for they won’t stick around so keep it QUICK!

There’s no denying that MrBeast is the ultimate YouTube goat 🐐 I’ve spent hours watching his greatest podcasts and it has completely CHANGED my perspective on all things YouTube 🤯
Here are some of the most valuable quotes that I found…
⬆️ “Make 100 videos, IMPROVE something EVERY TIME”
🐌 “CONVINCE them of all of it, and get PERMISSION to slow down”
❤️ “If you want 100M views, there are certain things EVERY human FEELS”
📈 “No matter what, there is ALWAYS a way to be BETTER”
🚀 “Get really ADDICTED to IMPROVING your product”

I’ve been a video editor for 8 years now, and over those years my daily routine has evolved with me, and it’s still nowhere near perfect… 🌙
Some days feel more like a regular 9-5, other days I work during the day and then start a shift for an American client in the evening that runs through until gone midnight, and then end up taking a lie in on the following day 😴
Video editing, especially freelance, can be hard, long hours and because of the flexibility and uncertainty of balancing clients, I’ve found it requires A LOT of discipline, but it's also extremely rewarding! 🖥️
This is what keeps me going day to day; it allows me to work with really interesting people, TV personalities and YouTubers tend to have awesome bold personalities, and I’ve learnt a lot from watching them day to day 🤩
It’s creative - every day is different, and it keeps my brain challenged and entertained 🌟
Finally, the flexibility itself, this is no negative - yes, it may require me to be more disciplined but it allows me the freedom to work when I want, where I want and choose what to prioritise each day, whether that be smashing out that piece of client work or fixing that door handle that’s been bugging me for a week 📋
