HayWire sat down with Jillian Dunham (former NYT editor) for Tracking Up to break down what's really moving the hay market right now.
We got into it:
— Why Pennsylvania has the highest hay prices in the country
— How drought is cutting yields 40-60% in the hardest-hit regions
— The cattle herd at its lowest since 1951, and why that keeps prices sticky
— What horse owners and barn managers are missing about the market
This is the kind of breakdown we do every week — turning USDA data into plain-English market intel. Full conversation below.

HayWire exists to bring real price transparency to the hay market. We turn USDA auction data into clear, current prices, a national index, every reporting market, and trends by state. So farmers, ranchers, and buyers know what hay is actually worth before they buy or sell.
Yesterday we reworked the prices page to better serve our subscribers, check it out!
