New: For likely the first time in modern history, the Supreme Court decided more cases in fast-tracked, secretive proceedings than in open court. Watch us break down how a once-rare emergency process became the norm. propub.li/4xFC6wG

A developer built an app that alerts you when camera glasses are nearby. It’s called ZuckOff. The free iPhone and Android app scans Bluetooth signals from Ray-Ban Meta, Snap and other smart glasses, then estimates how close they are. The developer says he built it after seeing how people were using the glasses.

Police called these hanging deaths suicides. Juliana Nzita, Trey Reed, and Kyle Bassinga were all found hanging. Some cases closed fast with no full autopsy. Families still want answers. A lot of people still want answers!

Letter to the editor ( with edit at bottom) speaks for many of us who live in overdeveloped Florida “With all due respect I disagree wholeheartedly with the recent guest column by Sarasota land planner Bruce Franklin ("Let's stop treating Sarasota developers like villains," Sept. 13).  Franklin didn't address the real reasons why Sarasota residents want a halt to development.  Yes, I've lived here for more than 50 years, but it's irresponsible to keep developing at a reckless pace.  Our roads are so congested now that it's ridiculous, and they didn't use to be this way.  🎯We lack the infrastructure to accommodate our existing population, much less a population that will continue to grow.  🎯The aquifer is being asked to do more than it should be, and we have droughts that are magnified because of this.  So where will the water come from?  When will we add more lanes to our already maxed-out roads?  None of these issues are being addressed.  Our quality of life won't improve with more development.  In fact, quite the opposite will happen.  So let's get to the real reason why we continue to overdevelop our community.  🎯It is greed – at the expense of everything and everyone else.” ((EDIT.. now .. add Data centers that eat up 5 MILLION gallons of water per DAY . Enough for a small/medium town))) Do not elect @ByronDonalds.. he’s in the pockets of developers AND data centers !

Dengue is known as bone-break fever bc it is so bad, your bones hurt. There is no vaccine - no real treatment. You take an aspirin. Only prevention is mosquito abatement—& Florida’s mosquito control boards are funded by property taxes, & will get decimated by Amendment 3
The Florida Department of Health has confirmed that the first death due to dengue has occurred in Hillsborough County. wfla.com/news/pasco-county/1…

Since August….this story should have been shared a long time ago.
Kentucky State University student-athlete Aminata Seck has been in ICE custody since August after being detained while traveling with her basketball team. According to the Courier Journal, Seck, 26, was taken into custody at Louisville Muhammad Ali International Airport on Aug. 7 as the Kentucky State basketball team prepared to travel to New York for a tournament. Since her detention, attorney Sadiqa Reynolds says Seck has been moved between multiple facilities. Seck, who also attended Langston University, is currently dealing with an ACL injury and, according to Reynolds, has struggled to receive consistent access to ice and medical attention while in custody. Reynolds told the Courier Journal that Seck may have missed a student visa deadline while dealing with back surgery. The newspaper reported that its attempts to obtain comment from ICE were unsuccessful. “She needs surgery. She needs medical attention,” Reynolds said in a social media post cited by the Courier Journal. Kentucky State told the Courier Journal that it did not have information to share out of respect for the privacy of those involved, while Reynolds praised KSU head coach Amani Williams for advocating for Seck throughout the situation.

Well alright
America’s corporate governance system is broken, and it’s killing public companies. Look no further than Cracker Barrel: Decades of brutal mismanagement have seen one incompetent CEO after another walk away with a massive paycheck while customers and actual shareholders take a beating. Why does this keep happening? Because proxy advisory firms like ISS are corrupt. They blindly rubber-stamp failing boards year after year, protecting the corporate elite while burning shareholder value to the ground. The root of the rot is index funds. There's no question that indexing one's money is a smart financial move for most people. But just because you passively index your investments doesn't mean your corporate votes should be handed over to the managers of your fund so they can play politics. Right now, passive funds hold massive, unchecked voting blocks while having zero skin in the game themselves. It is time for a simple rewrite of the rules: We need to index the votes of index fund investors. Passive index funds should be forced to automatically split their votes to proportionately mirror those of retail and active institutional shareholders — the people actually doing the research, risking their capital, and fighting for performance in the companies they hold shares in. No more rubber-stamping. A change like this will immediately strip corrupt gatekeepers like ISS of their toxic influence. True accountability happens when lazy, overpaid boards actually answer to the stakeholders they represent, rather than screwing them over. Actual, logic-driven governance when your money is passive happens when your vote passively follows the voting decisions of the actual market. We need to stop letting passive capital protect active incompetence. By stripping index funds of their arbitrary voting power and empowering engaged investors, we will finally torch corporate cronyism and usher American capital markets into a golden age of capitalism.

The Villages seeing their “and then they came for me” moment “The scale of the expected cancellations is significant. The Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health estimates that about 2.9 million Medicare Advantage enrollees will not have their plans renewed next year. UnitedHealthcare is expected to discontinue plans affecting 1.1 million seniors, while Humana plans to shut down coverage impacting roughly 600,000 seniors across the country”

More Floridians are waking up to the damage Amendment 3 would do to our communities. But this fight is far from won. A new St. Pete Polls survey shows the amendment sitting well short of the 60% it needs to pass, with a quarter of voters still undecided. That means every conversation, every share, every voter we reach between now and Election Day matters.

Most people think Alligator Alcatraz was the end of it. Florida built a tent camp in the Everglades, it became a national story, and then they shut it down in June. That is only half true. The inspector general finally got inside that place and found people packed into units at less than half the space Florida requires in a regular jail. They put 79 detainees in metal boxes about the size of a phone booth, some of them outdoors, for up to two hours. Staff called them calming areas. The showers had bugs. People were handed one plastic cup they could not clean and drinking water sitting next to open toilets. Officials spent months saying the cages were a hoax. The report has photos. Florida closed the Everglades site. It did not close the program. There is another facility in Baker County called Deportation Depot. Same state emergency-management operation. More than a thousand people are still there. ICE’s own files list the detention standards as N/A. No internal ICE inspection this year. None on the calendar for next year. So the camp everyone heard about is gone. The version with even less federal oversight is still running. That is the part that usually surprises people who only followed the first story.

Let me explain why @ByronDonalds’ school choice record deserves scrutiny. 2017: Byron helps sponsor and pass legislation expanding charter schools and taxpayer-funded school choice in Florida. 2017: His wife, @ErikaDonalds, launches the Optima Foundation to establish charter schools. 2018: Optima gets approval for its first charter school. 2020: Erika launches OptimaEd, a FOR-PROFIT education management company. Then the money starts flowing. Erika’s for-profit companies went on to receive MILLIONS in contracts from taxpayer-funded charter schools. Byron helped expand the publicly funded system. His wife built a business inside it. Just thought y’all should know the DANGERS of putting them in the governors mansion and providing Byron the opportunity to sign off on our state budget. Who will profit?
