The cover proofs for my new book The Geopolitics of Memory: A Journey to #Bosnia — available in fall 2019 as part of the Balkan Politics & Society series @ibidem11 & @ColumbiaUP | The cover image is from the granite triptych The Garden of Delights by the artist Mladen Miljanović. – at Tampere, Finland
I almost feel like the notes on a new paper about landscape and war in Bosnia and Herzegovina could just be a poem

Umjesto očekivanih granica, ovdje možete doživjeti mape sjećanja, mašte i intime.
Više o ovom projektu možete pročitati u novom blogu jednog od urednika, @_James_Riding. tinyurl.com/3yree2fx.

Last week, the youth exhibition "Subjective Atlas 🇧🇦" opened at the History museum of BiH.
In partnership with #subjectiveeditions and @UniofNewcastle, the exhibition presents the works of 88 young authors from BiH and the diaspora who, through drawings, collages and photographs, have depicted this country as they see, feel and live it.
Instead of the expected borders, here you can experience maps of memory, imagination and intimacy.
You can read more about this project in the new blog of one of the editors, @_James_Riding tinyurl.com/3yree2fx.

Thanks to @PCRCBiH for making the workshops happen that enabled the Subjective Atlas of Bosnia and Herzegovina – it is a document that celebrates diversity in a country that is often defined as divided and we hope lots of people engage with it subjectiveeditions.org/mappi…
Some more lovely photos of the whole group of Newcastle and Sarajevo geography students – so glad we did this and we’ll do it every year now
A lovely cultural exchange happened today at the Historical Museum of Bosnia and Herzegovina. Geography students at Newcastle University met with geography students at Sarajevo University to see the Subjective Atlas of Bosnia and Herzegovina exhibition: subjectiveeditions.org/mappi…

Spent all day setting up this exhibition of the Subjective Atlas of Bosnia and Herzegovina at the Historical Museum of Bosnia and Herzegovina in Sarajevo muzej.ba/ – it’s open from tomorrow until Monday 6 April in the Glass Gallery
Life goal achieved. A book I initiated and funded is available in a book shop in Sarajevo. We talk a lot about research being available in the places it is about, and rarely does this ever materialise. So this means way more than other things I have published!

'A focus on the subjective is perhaps uniquely appropriate in a place where the voices of those who experienced war and its aftermath, the traumatic, environmental, and material legacies of conflict, are often missing from studies'

How does the Subjective Atlas of Bosnia and Herzegovina disrupt conventional mapping by centering everyday, lived connections between people and place?
@_James_Riding (@NCL_Geography) explores this in a new @geogdirections blog post 👇

The Mayor of Sarajevo, as the host of the event, said:
“The Subjective Atlas exhibition is like a Bosnian carpet skilfully woven with the threads of tradition, where thematic stories of Bosnia and Herzegovina intertwine”

I leave Sarajevo tomorrow but will be back again in April with students from @UniofNewcastle for the Bosnia and Herzegovina field course I run – I can’t quite believe this is now out there as I first proposed making it in 2014! Thanks to all of the contributors and participants!
Just walked to Buybook in Sarajevo and they have copies of the Subjective Atlas of Bosnia and Herzegovina / Subjektivni Atlas Bosne i Hercegovine – they will be available to buy there soon and you can also get one here: subjectiveeditions.org/mappi…
Was not expecting the High Representative of Bosnia and Herzegovina to turn up at the launch of our atlas, Mayor of Sarajevo, British Ambassador to Bosnia and Herzegovina, and Egyptian ambassador to Bosnia and Herzegovina – that’s impact! @UniofNewcastle sarajevo.ba/bs/article/15620…
