How can we speed up bus services in London? Why are the fares so wonky? I talk about this in my new blog post on TfL bus network reform: open.substack.com/pub/divyes…

i’ve always found the relentless demonization of kathleen wynne deeply revealing. like at a certain point, the sheer intensity of the vitriol directed at her says far more about how we treat openly gay women in power than it does about her actual record in office like the comments under this post are vile
I’m proud to have the endorsement of Kathleen Wynne, the 25th Premier of Ontario. As Kathleen says, we come from different political traditions but we share a value system. We both believe that government exists to lift people up and to help them do the things they cannot do themselves. This election is a choice between moving forward together to make our city more caring, or going backwards with cuts to the services families depend on. Kathleen is a leader that has always stood up for families, and I am committed to building a city that works for everyone.

MTA should close this station until the people who did it confess or until someone rats them out. I'd give it 2 weeks tops until someone gives them up. Pay your fare, losers.
Anonymous submission: Last week, a group of activists disabled the OMNY readers at the BQ Church Avenue station in Brooklyn with an automatic center punch and drill. They opened the gate so people can ride for free, and painted the cameras to protect themselves and fellow riders from surveillance. This was deliberate act of protest against unaffordable transit, hyper-surveillance in predominantly Black and brown neighborhoods, and the MTA's collaboration with the military industrial complex. YOU ARE BEING WATCHED. OMNY records when and where you travel, your photograph, name, DOB, billing address, and other personal details. This invasive tech creates a profile to track your life and travel patterns. OMNY’s privacy policy places no limits on the data it collects about you. EVERY TAP FUNDS A WAR PROFITEER. OMNY is operated by Cubic, a military equipment company making combat simulators. They sell the F-35 fighter jet training system to imperialist zionist entities like israel. The F-35 is a key weapon in israel's genocide against Palestinians in Gaza, and all of the US's imperialist wars, responsible for massacring millions of people. FIGHT BACK. The MTA and Cubic don't deserve your hard earned cash. Take action, smash a reader, jump the turnstile, hold the gate for others. If you must pay, use cash for OMNY cards, and tap yourself and fellow riders in. This makes you all less traceable. Cover your face and identifying features. Always check for police before evading the fare. Remember, contracted security guards have no authority to stop or detain passengers. RIDE FREE, FUCK THE NYPD, AND FREE PALESTINE!

i would vote for canadian sinn fein before the democrats
I really hate the way liberal Americans talk about Canada. "Haha silly Trump, Canada would vote blue!" No lol they'd immediately set up a Canadian Sinn Fein that wins by Assad margins every time. Canada is not a pawn for the Democratic Party to use to win elections.

Something that gets lost in housing discourse is the difference between IRL vs online NIMBYs IRL NIMBYS tend to be old people who hate poors, traffic, & change. Online NIMBYs are usually leftists with weird beefs. They think YIMBYs are annoying and supply/demand isn't real.

Awesome picture of millions of dollars being thrown into a big hole
The hundreds of Toronto Police that have been deployed to ensure #bikelane removal goes ahead in the face of strong opposition provides a clear indication of who gets served and protected in this society.

I still can't believe how many of my progressive mutuals are CELEBRATING this porn ban on the UK! Are you ALL this fucking easy to manipulate and brainwash?!? Seriously, read through this thread by Snow and tell me this is something to celebrate JFC
You may have seen that as of Nov 6, the UK makes certain 🌽 illegal to own or post. It includes choking (even feigned), anything regarding family/incest, and anyone appearing to be under 16. Just remember: OF is based in London. Here's my thoughts on what will be collateral:

Sorry to be boring but painkillers aren’t sold in small, individually foiled boxes in Europe because nobody takes them, it’s to prevent suicides and overdoses. After this became law in Britain in 1998, paracetamol-related deaths fell by 43%!

Home vs original home. Big city regions, can't hate them
If you don't have at least 1 million people within a 30km radius of your city, you live in a rural poophole. You should move. Test it for yourself: tomforth.co.uk/circlepopulat…

ok i’m sorry but this is insane. the word ‘reverting’ is deeply loaded and implies followers of other religions are somehow wrong. i understand why some converts may want to use it about themselves but for non-Muslims to use it is just ridiculous. SFL has seemingly lost her mind!
Replying to @axiochrono
The actual term within Islam is "reverting". Just saying.
Readers added context they thought people might want to know
"Revert" for converts is a modern English term preferred by some (mainly Anglophone) Muslims based on fitrah. Not traditional Arabic; "aslama" means become Muslim. Arabic "irtadda" means apostasy. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Conversio… islam.stackexchange.com/questions/32/w… beginnings.org.uk/converts-rever…

The Toronto Police arrested Aly Van Wyck-Smart, a Paralympian with cerebral palsy who was protecting part of the bike lane from removal. On the bright side, the construction workers put the bollards back and said we'd won for the day.

TfL needs to do this as well. People will cry on behalf of old and disabled people, but I think it's more insulting that you think those populations don't want fast services too.
A personal pet peeve: bus stops With Paris losing 100 million bus users in 6 years (largely because they are too slow) here's my plea for most cities to remove at least 20% of bus stops 4 stops in 700 meters is nonsense, kills the bus' pace and costs £ in maintenance costs

I'm *regularly* misgendered because my name is unique even by Gujurati standards, nevermind if you're not used to non-Euro names to begin with. I slap pronouns in because some people need the context when addressing people in emails.
Just got an email from a press officer at the Cabinet Office who has her pronouns in her email signature along with a link to an article saying we should all be doing the same thing Is this the official position of the government? because if so I think we should know

JUST IN: Former SpaceX engineers raised $100M to build self-driving electric freight trains. Parallel Systems puts batteries and motors directly under shipping containers, letting them move without a traditional locomotive. -Travels up to 500 miles on a charge -Recharges in as little as one hour -Vehicles automatically form and split apart into groups -Works with standard shipping containers -Designed to make shorter rail routes competitive with trucks Parallel is already testing the system across 160 miles of railroad in Georgia.

Imagine my anger when about a decade after Grade 7, I learned that the teacher that believed in collective punishment, got an award by the school board. "No one will make a sound, even if someone is poking you hard with a pen." I was being jabbed and nothing was stopped.
As the "good kid" back in school, I hated it when teachers would punish the entire class for the actions of one or two students. It doesn't encourage other students to behave, it makes other students wonder what's the point in following the rules if they'll get punished anyway

Perpetually fascinated by people who live in cities who have such suburban attitudes.
Cities need families and families need cars. A family that owns a car is not automatically some kind of 1%er. The problem with the transit bros is that they cannot fathom the circumstances of a family because they are almost always childless. Making life harder on car drivers also makes life harder for families. Cities should be making decisions based on attracting and retaining families.
