❓Can health-systems data accurately identify folks with untreated opioid use disorder (OUD)? 📳Could ‘cold-calls’ from a prescriber engage these folks in OUD care? Our descriptive evaluation of a novel OUD care model sheds some light on these questions and more.

Therapeutically-dosed methadone is a life-saving treatment for fentanyl addiction. Why must patients first endure months of discomfort to get there? Through a lived experience narrative and review of the literature, our @SAj_AMERSA commentary argues for a different approach.

Though opioid overdose is a leading cause of disability and death, health systems lack incentives to make meaningful investments in proven overdose prevention services. #ACSC designation could change that. @DrHsuPsychiatry
💬 Viewpoint: Designating opioid overdose as an ambulatory care sensitive condition (#ACSC) could expand access to evidence-based prevention, improve care quality, and reduce avoidable hospitalizations. ja.ma/49bnFpH

Should opioid overdose be designated as an ambulatory care sensitive condition? We think so. Huge gratitude for @DrHsuPsychiatry 's vision & leadership in drafting this piece, & for the fabulous contributions of our twitterless co-authors Peter Capone-Newton and Lillian Gelberg.

There’s a tragic feature in our nation’s soaring overdose crisis: all too often fatal od’s occur when someone’s alone. As in, no one’s there to call 911, to give a lifesaving antidote. ⁦Enter hotlines and biosensors. New from @DavidOvalle305⁩ & me: washingtonpost.com/health/20…

Amazing panel at the VA national OTP conference today with JC, SAMHSA, DEA, and VA leadership all taking questions from the field about the confounding rules governing the provision of life-saving methadone care.

Out today in @Health_Affairs: If you have a child that needs residential treatment for OUD, the average out-of-pocket cost for a month of treatment is $26,353. Twenty-three states in the US have no residential treatment facility, or don't have one that accepts Medicaid. ⬇️

New paper alert. Q: can intensive primary care using “ambulatory ICUs” can impact 6-month hospitalizations in an urban healthcare for homeless setting. Partnered research with @CCCPortland and @OHSUNews
Ambulatory intensive care units can have a positive effect on the health and well-being of complex patients, although longer time horizons may be required to reduce hospitalizations and emergency department visits. ja.ma/476Mn8F

OTP Medical Director here. At our clinic we try our best. But at every turn regulation stymies our ability to get life-saving methadone to those who need it. Many of those we fail die. Alternatives to outdated, inaccessible OTPs are desperately needed. MOTAA provides one.
Enough is enough. As opioid deaths reach a record high, we can't keep lifesaving medication out of the hands of people who need it. We need to pass my Modernizing Opioid Treatment Access Act and let doctors prescribe methadone for SUD.
