Appeal to the new GovofWestBengal
Kolkata trams have survived two world wars and are still alive today. Reducing them to joyrides and removing lines is a disservice to our heritage. It's time to revive and modernize this iconic symbol of Kolkata!
Bring back CTC instead of WBTC

Deeply touched by the good wishes conveyed by people from all walks of life today and over the last few days. While I may not have been able to respond to each message individually, I cherish every greeting conveyed.
I consider it a privilege to have the opportunity to serve Bharat and contribute to our nation’s development journey. Over the years, the people of India have repeatedly voted for stability, good governance and development. Their trust has been my greatest source of strength. I remain fully committed to working with even greater dedication to realise the vision of a Viksit Bharat and fulfil the aspirations of 140 crore Indians.

Deputy CM @paulagnimitra1 remark that trams will be made more attractive with specific routes is encouraging. If College Street becomes vehicle-free, modern trams can be the ideal mobility solution, clean, electric, affordable and perfectly suited to the character of Boi Para.

Congratulation to @swapan55 being a cabinet minister.
🚋 Kolkata deserves answers.
What is the current status of every tram depot land parcel?
Have tram properties been leased, transferred, repurposed or redeveloped?
What revenue was generated from tram assets and where was it spent?
Will the Govt publish a White Paper on tram lands, depots, workshops and assets looted by TMC in last 15 years?
Public assets. Public accountability.

Announcement 📬📬
Tramjatra /CTUA are pleased to announce our new creative partner and collaborator, @Placemaking_In, together invite you all to the Environment Day Tramjatra on 5 June 2026. This year's theme, designated by the United Nations, is “Climate Action,” underscoring the urgent need to address climate change, reduce carbon emissions, and propel the transition to a sustainable, low-carbon economy. To honor this occasion, we will decorate a tram that draws attention to the environmental problems we face and the solutions related to living a sustainable lifestyle. The decorated tram will run from Gariahat Depot to Shyambazar Terminus via Esplanade Terminus on June 5 between 10:30 a.m. and 12:30 p.m. In alignment with the Central Government's special environment programme, the newly elected members will plant saplings in all three depots/termini.

@SuvenduWB @swapan55 @RoopaSpeaks @SamikBJP @narendramodi Metro extension in Kolkata is welcome, but don't make Kolkata just another city in India by neglecting what makes it unique.
How long will citizens, transport experts, and tram supporters keep raising their voices without being heard? Years have passed, yet there is still no clear Tram Policy.
If the government is serious about sustainable rail-based transport, then show it through action—restart a few tram routes, restore depots and tracks, modernize the system, and begin recruitment in the transport sector.
The concern is not modernization. The concern is the continued silence.

People do ride trams if they are available :)
This photo proves that trams can draw passengers when they run in the evening on Esplanade to shyambazar (route 5) route. Better frequency of trams in this route can draw more passengers. @narendramodi

2/2...but at least they run that 'vintage car #100' for a few hours on a round course near the depot. Better than nothing. So now looking forward for the 150th anniversary in 15 years 🥳

Latest news !!
Due to the gusty nor wester, there has been a lot of disruption all across Kolkata. Trees have fallen and tram overhead wires are affected on the Wellington to Lotus cinema route 25. @GoWBTransport , CTC overheard wires department is working hard to restore the snapped wires soon. We appreciate the urgency of restoration. Earlier, during the Amphan cyclone, many damages were done and we are yet to restore iconic Khidirpur to Esplanade via Maidan and Howrah bridge to Rajabazar and Bidhannagar route. @paulagnimitra1 @SuvenduWB @swapan55 please restore tram services as soon as possible. Public transportation is a need for an hour for Kolkata and an integrated one will give relief to the people.
